After catching many of Bommando's rockets in the face
... last night I played Belgrade in a recon kit to give the SL's Otus diamonds more hang time. I don't have the Carbine, so while I am moving from place to place, I use the pistol.
I came around a corner in the alley north of Comm Tower, and sure enough there's a red con, and we're both surprised. I got the face to face pistol kill, and was even more pleased to see who it was. ![]() I also emptied the handgun into TWO knifer's faces last night so it was VERY good all around. Great rounds, all.

Re: After catching many of Bommando's rockets in the face
I am aware of his ping issue, and the reason for the rockets. On that point, I would like to thank GOD that 95% of the players in 2142 are nowhere as good with rockets as him, and I often chuckle as they streak overhead, not being set to detonate on me, properly.
Nice walker-driving last night, Feh - I was suppressed enough at Ruin that I could never quite line you up. Someone explain to me how a kinetic energy based penetrator is quite so lazy and slow? It should be like a damned laser bolt. Ahhh well.

HAHA, yeah, nice one. I think the squad had to turn their volume down after my magazine emptied into your body, not doing a single point of damage. Ah, the joys.

Re: After catching many of Bommando's rockets in the face
Last night that one Round of Belgrade was fun!
Like 4 Snipers on Monorail just waiting to get rocketed down but... I was Recon, Bom was Support and Fem was Engineer. Our 3 Assaults didnt have Rockets unlocked or didnt know how to use them. One always shot them to the front of monorail wondering why no dmg is done ![]() |

Re: After catching many of Bommando's rockets in the face
After reading this thread, I decided to take what I thought of the rockets to a new level and loaded up some singleplayer madness to see what the real potential of these things are.
MAN. Airbursting these beyond your targets cover is an extremely effective way to piss them off. Most people I have noticed spam these rockets to detonate when they impact (I used to). But their true power lies in their ability to be set to detonate at a certain distance. I was on the doorman pub, and was getting quite frustrated at being taken down several times by sniper fire coming from the same direction. Way beyond what I could see clearly. So I respawned furtherback, and inched my way closer till I found the culprits. One support and one sniper, as I could see them via the scope suppressing close targets with the MG. They were located all the way at the rear of the Port Map on the high fuel tanks. I respawned in the hanger and made my way towards them. After reading this thread, and the practice I put myself through on SP, I decided to try it. I set to rockets, hit the zoom and noted the distance. 170. I knew I wanted to airburst these above them, so I scrolled up one click and set it to 172. Since the distance was being measured by the initial zoom, which would have been the tip of the tank I was looking at. I fired once I found a decent position and angle, just to check drop. Saw the rocket fell short, and immediatly reloaded and took cover. Then I broke cover, zoomed, up-ranged, and lobbed 4 rockets in succession varying their angle slightly so they should airburst directly over the targets. Got them both with the second or third rocket. Man, Thanks so much for making me realize the true potential of this weapon. It only takes one second to set the range properly and you can almost get the kills all the time. Spamming them might be good to disorient, but now, I am all about the kills. Thanks for this thread hehe! ![]()

Re: After catching many of Bommando's rockets in the face
There's nothing wrong with having your rockets explode on impact. It useful when you are high up and want to quickly hit a bunch of guys below you in the open. But air bursting them usually is more effective if you do it correctly.

Re: After catching many of Bommando's rockets in the face
I totally agree, And I hope I didn't sound like I was advocating only to use them a certain way. I just had a self realization, that all those rockets I spammed ie: in the upper walkway on the titans, I would have gotten the kills I was going for if I would have brought the range closer and burst them before the wall. Not letting them hit the wall.
I was damn happy to find another use for this weapon.
