i've have noticed that our current form of transportation is a little old. this old wooden ship is showing a lot of age, and the plank is just not cutting anymore.
so im wondering what ya'll would think if i replaced this hunk of wood with a modern day Aegis Class Destroyer. yea thats right, i just landed my new job as n electrical engineer working on this classy piece of art. take your time and think this over, it may be too much to take in. haha

Re: This pirate has been promoted, and has obtained us a new whip
Congrats! My main career is in electronics as a tech and I have always enjoyed it.
I offer a bit of advice from a tech who has been in the field for almost 14 years. Don't assume that degrees make the man. The most brilliant RF engineer I ever worked with didn't even have a high school diploma. The schedules and gantt charts can be tossed out the window as soon as you start putting together hardware. Nothing works right the first time. Ever. If it does work right the first time then don't ever expect it to happen again. It was a fluke. Make whoever you are working for buy the good tools. Using crappy equipment costs more time in labor and frustration than you saved by buying junk. Good luck man and I hope you enjoy your new career!

It's a right sleek vessel, I'll grant ye that lad, but nary a clew ta reef nor jib ta jibe! Where be th' soul? She's a hard grey Lady, an' not one fer a bit o' slap an' tickle, I'll warrant! An' as fer the mast! Hyarg! A tuppence o' sailcloth would snap 'er in two, arh, before she caught enough wind ta move a dinghy! Nay, nay, the smell of tar an' honest plankin' 'neath me feet fer me, says I. Though I wouldn't want her guns ta be eyin' MY hull, to be sure!

Re: This pirate has been promoted, and has obtained us a new whip
Congratulations Viper! Most cool.
Oh yeah...everything Wimp said is bang on. I fully corroborate wimps account of reality, based upon my own experiences. I'd add however, that if it's RF engy's you're dealing with don't make fun of the voodoo shrines some of those guys have. It improves results ![]() Cheers, |

Re: This pirate has been promoted, and has obtained us a new whip
thanks a lot guys, i really appreciate it. Im going to be working for a company called Bath Iron Works, here in Maine. I am really looking forward to it, and i know all about scheduling and the gant charts, im just finishing up a class that deals with nothing but that stuff. What im really hoping is that i get a chance to get my hands dirty in the new destroyer that they just got the contract for. its the DDG1000, the navies new toy, and is supposed to be crazy and be the first ship in the navy with electric propulsion. They want to get ride of gas turbine, which is good for me since i am just finishing up the second part of a 2 semester class dealing with electric power.
I fully understand what you mean by those who have degrees aren't necessarily the best go to guys.

Re: This pirate has been promoted, and has obtained us a new whip
I thought about a career in electrical engineering. How was college?
