19 widescreen lcd monitor

First off I really love Tactical Gamer. I have had a lot of fun being killed by most of you. I am looking into upgrading my monitor. I am interested in the wide screen format. Since 2142 is not a true widescreen game I am curious about what it looks like on a widescreen monitor. Is the game stretched to fit the screen? Or is the image cut off on the left and right giving the apperance of a standard monitor that I have now a 17"crt. I am looking at one that is on sale at Bestbuy this week. The brand is MAG. 19" widescreen 1440x900 resolution 2ms response time (LT1919WDB). Anyone familier with this brand? Not looking to spend a fortune.
Thanks

Re: 19 widescreen lcd monitor

By default it ends up looking stretched left-to-right, but you can force a specific resolution by editing your battlefield shortcut so the program path line reads something like this:

"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

Of course, switch out the 1280 and 1024 with 1440 and 900. I'm not sure if the icons in game stretch, I think they might, but give it a shot.

Re: 19 widescreen lcd monitor

There was a +widescreen attrib. in BF2, not sure if it's still there in 2142, or what it actually does, but it's worth a shot.

Re: 19 widescreen lcd monitor

I also have a WS monitor. For balance purposes your rendered FOV is the exact same as what it would be on a standard 4:3 monitor, so you don't get a view advantage playing in WS. But, it actually does render out the full res based on that FOV. So, effectively, it does stretch left/right. The UI appears a little stretched, but once you play on it for a while you won't even notice it anymore. When I play 4:3 it looks funny to me now.

If you're going to play WS, make sure to use the command-line switches, or you'll get black bars on the sides. I have two icons on my desktop for 16:9 and 4:3 resolutions so I don't have to change the switches when I take my box places.

I use a 19 viewsonic with a 5 ms refresh and use 1449 by 900, and there is a small difference, but i didn't care enough to look into it. I still use and i don't even remember what the difference is.

I tried this a while back and was getting a whopping 10fps - 15fps during regular play and 1fps during an OS...

Wow. I play in 1920x1080 and don't see any performance problems with it.

Obviously you must have a better video card than Lorax.

It seemed like the way he was pointing that out was there was some kind of problem or bug with the settings or WS resolutions.

Performance should be about the same on a per pixel basis. My machine runs 1920x1080 (2.07Mpix) about the same as 1600x1200 (1.92Mpix.) Sorry, I should have explained a bit more.

I didn't mean to come off like an ass. I run mine at widescreen and don't have any problems either.

No, I was lamenting the fact that I have an a crappy card, nothing more. Perhaps I should have added that little nugget of info rather than expecting you guys to read my mind (or know my rigs inventory)...

Sounds like the "stretched" image is some thing I could live with. If not I quess the black bars on the sides will have to do. I don't really know what the command-line switches are, but I quess it is something I can play with when I get the monitor. I emailed my card manufacture to see if it could handle a WS fromat. They assured me it could. The card is a Nvidia 7600gts from Newegg last fall. Anyone familier with the MAG brand monitor?
Thanks for the input.

Urit already posted them in this thread in the second post. Edit your shortcut to look like the execution call he posted, and change the numbers from 1280x1024 to the resolution you want to use. the +szx and +szy parameters force a resolution in the game. And as far as the image stretching goes, after a couple days it will become normal and you won't notice it unless you play on a non-WS monitor.

Yeah, most modern cards will. ATI has had WS support for a long time, and WS monitors are becoming more prevalent.

Nope, sorry. I've got a Samsung at the moment. And I try and buy from them when possible.

I have this as well. Runs great, and not too pricey, can find it under 200. A lot of people from the computer forum I'm a part of have and use this regularly as well, and they're much more techy than I for the most part.
