Armed Assault DVD not reporting in! Need some help.

Well, I've got a new and unusual problem:

My Armed Assault DVD (505 games, UK version) is no longer recognized in Windows, it won't autostart when I reinsert the disk...and basically just sits there like a lump of coal. I've restarted the system...if I leave the DVD in the tray, the computer will not fully boot (presumably because it can't read the DVD).

I've tested 2 other DVDs: GRAW, and BF2...both work in the same player.

I've got a Lite-On LH-20A1L Lightscribe SATA DVD drive, with standard XP drivers but updated Lightscribe software just in case. There is no updated firmware for the Lite-On LH-20A1L yet.

Brand new Windows XP Pro installation...no junk on this baby!

I've even tried changing the DVD region, but that shouldn't even be an issue.

The DVD is brand spanking new...no visible scratches.

Edit: I tried inserting the disk in a second computer...works like a champ. GGRRRR!

Any ideas? Could sure use some help here.

Re: Armed Assault DVD not reporting in! Need some help.

So Hardware wise you are 10-4..the Drive functions correctly etc.. Why do I really..really want to blame the Copy protection scheme on this one..? Any chance you have an old DVD reader around to try that in your machine to eliminate the DVD as the issue... I mean really it has to be a Software/Driver/Virtual CD conflict or something...
I wonder if you could do a system restore back a few weeks and see the results?

BTW...Was this the DVD DRIVE you did the Original Install with ?

Yep...This baby's not even 2 weeks old. I tried the DVD in my other computer and the game auto-started, no problem.

I bet you're right: the dreaded copy protection. Something's up with that I bet.

I'm currently making an image of the disk on my other computer, transferring it over, then testing if I can mount the image and play it that way. Fingers crossed.

Can you upgrade the firmware on it?

No...the Lite-On drive is so new that there aren't any firmware upgrades yet. I've got it running now. I had to go on over to the *ahem* dark side to burn an image of the DVD and mask the virtual drive I mounted it on.

At least I don't have to put in the DVD anymore...it still bugs the heck out of me though.

I've sent an e-mail to securom with a debug file for them to analyze...I'm sure I'll here back from them sharpish... right.

Did it work tho?....

.... if it did then... "Darn.. I was going to suggest that same course of action but they beat me to it.."

If it didn't... "damn copyright protection schemes!!."
