Unhappy DVD not found

My DVD no longer works. Weird. Went away on vacation, swapped my 2142 DVD for a movie and now that I've put my 2142 DVD back in, 2142 says it can't find the disk when I fire it up.

I use Vista, but I've been using Vista for months and this is the first time I've had it do this to me.

Any ideas? There is no noticable damage to the dvd surface, so I'm kind of stumped.

Update: This is now moot. I put together a WinXP gaming drive, and 2142 works fine under it.

Re: DVD not found

I recall this being asked before in this forum. I think the solution was to disable the option for Vista to run as administrator for all users. Or buy a copy off EA Link, then you don't need a cd. Or a cd key since it enters it for you. It's awesomtastic.

The UAC thing isn't the issue- I've run it under Vista without problems numerous times, and I'd rather not buy a new copy.

Re: DVD not found

You could just get the cracked exe, but I don't know if all the Vista security stuff would allow it.

Might have to do with DVD region codes. (dunno how this is handled in Vista, but...).

Re: DVD not found

Wow, a separate XP drive sounds like an annoyingly long work around... Although it's pointless now, did you have any disk image drives installed (deamon or alcohol 120%)? If so you can try running YASU.

Here's the other thread that discussed it on this forum:

I did have daemon installed, although again I've had that for months without problems, and fixing it did not resolve the problem.

Meh, the XP drivers are all a little more optimised and stable, and I can tweak the install to my heart's content without worrying about breaking anything important. One for work, one for play.

I finally gave up on Vista.. I ran Vista for about 3months and one by one I saw many of my games that would work fine for weeks all of a sudden just stop working.

I was ok when CivIV didnt work. I was ok when Tiger Woods didnt work. I was even ok when BF2 stopped working but then 2142 stopped working and that was the final straw.

I feel that after several months .. many home and business users are not accepting Vista on a whole(IMO).. and is a total failure on MS. I am hoping a year from now that MS and the industry will catch up but at this point I am giving up on Vista.

Re: DVD not found

Hmm, does this have anything to do with StarForce copy protection by chance?

I know a lot of publishers stopped using StarForce, but perhaps you have another game installed/the DVD used StarForce copy protection? The bug, for those who don't know, was that it permanently disabled the use of your physical cd/dvd drive.
