Question about lag

Okay, this is not about the server issue. On my laptop it seems that maps like sidi and verdun are really laggy and I just can't play them (I like the maps, so please don't start that argument). When I first started playing 2142 I could play titan maps with no lag outside of the titan and little in it. That is why I don't understand the lag I have been getting here lately on vehicle maps.

my laptop:
p4 2.8
2 gb ram
ATI MobilityRadeon 9800 256mb (running the latest omega drivers)
Hitachi 7200rpm hd (26gb used and 26gb free)

What kind of settings do you guys think I should be running. This is how I have it know:
Display mode: 1600x1200 at 60hz
Terrian: Medium
Effects: Medium
Geometry: High
Texture: High
Lighting: Medium
Dynamic Shadows: off
Dynamic Lighting: Low
AA: 2x
Texture Filter: Medium
View Distance: 100%
Enhanced Lighting: off

So for the most part I am running medium settings. I don't know, I thought I should be able to run medium, maybe not?

Thoughts and opinions welcome.

Re: Question about lag

Just a guess, but I'd say the resolution you are trying to run at would be the culprit. I would suggest trying either 1024x768 or 1280x960 and see how it works out. Again, just a guess...

Is your video card AGP or PCIe?

Re: Question about lag

I have the same problem on my laptop. Smaller infantry based maps like Camp G. play smoothly but anything bigger than Belgrade or Tunis is a laggy mess for me, even with all settings on low and view distance at 100%. I've also heard rumor that this could be caused by lag in a wireless connection, which is what I have.

Re: Question about lag

Aye, when in doubt, turn down your resolution. Also, try turning off the AA and other high effects, they'll put a bit of hurt on your gameplay. Maybe try dropping textures down a step too, they don't look too bad on medium I hear.

I'll try that also and the other suggestions.

That is exactly how mine is right now. I don't understand why it changed though. The titan maps are big and I was able to play those with no problem. Also the NS maps are a good size too and they didn't bother my laptop.

Re: Question about lag

I wouldn't really bother updating the BIOS, thats something you only need to worry about if you're having problems hardware wise/want more options to overclock.

Has this problem arisen since the last patches, or just recently? Try reinstalling the game (check out the crashes 3/4 through load thread, found a real good method for a full removal and reinstall)j. Do you defrag much, or download and delete things often?

Re: Question about lag

Check the 2142 Tweak Guide, help me with some issues. Follow the directions for the ATI tweak. Updating the driversa nd utilizing the catalyst to tweak the setting as descrived may show some iprovement.

How old is the card? Is the card overheating?

I'll turn the AA off. Virtual memory: min-2mb max-3070mb This is what the pc recommended when I upgraded the memory. Wasn't really sure about it though.

I don't defrag much but I check it often. It usually is only fragmented by a few percent. I defrag occasionally though anyway. It does seem to have been after the patches were installed. Maybe since the last one, think that moved a bunch of files around?

I have been there but the tweaks mainly deal with unmodified catalyst drivers and I'm using omega drivers. They are pretty good.

Well the cards were made exclusively for the Dell inspiron 9100s and XPS gen 1 laptops. They stopped making them awhile ago and this is the third replacement card I have gotten. So I am not really sure how old this card is. I don't think the card is overheating because if verdun or sidi are the first maps I play the lag will start immediately.
