The best POE in months 6/25 10-12 EDT

This AAR is brought to you in size 4 text by the AARP, who reminds you that
"You can't remember what you've forgotten before you forget!"

UKR Squad 4: 66666666666

Obviously a 6th Squad, I came in on Orel, with eGoatboy as the SL. We started out on Lumbermil, then moved down to Church and spent the rest of the game there. About halfway through, the goat lost connection leaving me in the SL spot; we played on.

Belhade, BC2ID, Ferris and bamx were my squadmates. Just before this, Mantis and another sniper were hitting us hard from the north high ground, keeping the flag clear as their squadmates kept pouring in. After flanking the snipers, that attack lost momentum and we pushed back.

We first formed a defensive arc on the NE side of the Church across the street, picking off the spawns coming in from Lumbermill. We got to take out quite a few guys. Meanwhile Luckyshot's 5555555555 squad was taking the NW side towards the Farmhouse. In this way we kept the Germans off the Church for a good long time.

Then Backyard fell, and we pulled back. By this time Goat was back in, but let me take the squad as he took the CO chair. Rapid-fire, clear instructions to all the squadleaders kept our coordination tight. After shifting to BY and making a lot, but not quite enough headway, Goat sent us back to Church where we continued to do our thing. At this point an early ticket lead by the GER had been whittled down and now showed 30+ in our favor.

The attacks on Church became more heated, frantic and fun as bullets, rockets, med packs and bodies flew through the air like a hailstorm. We almost lost it a few times, but managed to hold on to the lead for the win. Sorry, I never have the presence of mind to remember to take screenies. I just keep track of how many times I kill haxX0rs. I killed Mantis 2 times!

Carpathian came next, Goat was back in but I stayed SL, and we headed to North Cabin. We repelled several attacks until two squads and a wicked Anti-Material Rifle pushed us off.

We immediately headed to Lumbermill to try and get it before one of the squads returned from NC, but we got taken out before we saw the flag. Back to S. Cabin for a car and a quick drive to the valley below N. Cabin. I headed off for Lumber again while my guys were instructed to assist a smaller squad trying to recap. The flag flipped, and I was below the bridge between the flags.

As they died they respawned on me, and we snuck up on 2 sides, as I remember, and managed to take Lumbermill. In this way the enemy stayed concentrated on N. Cabin until we were in position. WhiskeySix managed to get away with the tank, but he retreated to where we didn't need to worry. We got our mine down, took up our positions and held on to bleed them down. Our squad did a nice mix of defense and offense on this map, and worked together really well. So much communication, I always knew where everyone was, what they were doing and what they were seeing. Another win for UKR, with 2 squads defending on both S. Cabin and Lumbermill at the end.

Dnister came next, and I turned the helm back over to my former Irreg mentor, eGoatboy. We stayed mostly on the East Bridge, and defended till the cows came home. Actually, the 12th came home, and capped it with help from overhead, but we attacked till we got it back. Those darn cows never did show up, having wandered into an artillery target area. Our squad distinguished itself very nicely in this map. Forgive me, I'll let my mates extol the virtues of their exploits; we were all doing our thing full-bore, so I didn't catch a lot of what they were doing, although I got to watch Ferris knife a pesky sniper at one point. I just have to mention that I blew the Eurotiger out of the air 6 times in a row with the same tank, and hit it a seventh, but lost this last rematch. The same pilot came back 4 times in a row, until he got the idea and let someone else die a couple times. What fun.
One of my former Irreg squadmates (who will remain unnamed, we don't want to embarrass him--well OK, I really, really do want to) discovered that one of the UKR tanks can shoot an AT missile! We all took great delight in his noobish wonder.

Again the UKR fought like a pack of disco robot ninja monkeys, and scored the win again. Somehow I ended up 4th on my team's roster, which is usually a really bad sign for my team. I pity the fool who got me as the 4th best on their team. But this time, it wasn't so bad.

Finally in Woodland, Belhade was SL, Goatboy having signed off after our illustrious game on Dnister (he took out the Erotiger with a tank too! Poor Eurotiger...) and we headed for the hill. Did well on capping and defenderating for quite some time, then Belhade headed over to the Outpost, and found it almost deserted.

My mates spawned there as I continued defending hilltop with two other squads. Then we capped Mine and tried defending both, but Whiskey's Squad moved in and took out our line of defense--they moved faster than we could flank, I guess. We spawned at Outpost cabin just as they were turning the flag, with the expected outcome. We took a few out, but mostly just got shot and groaned or muttered curses. Falling back to Mine and then hilltop, it seemed the other team were a step ahead at every move.

In an amazing sequence of invasions that had the timing of the Blue Angels and the ferocity of a pack of disco robot ninja wolverines, the flags turned one by one until NOT ONE was left, and two poor souls were running about trying to stay alive. One was our very own Bc (or was it Ferris?) who managed to gray out the Outpost flag before getting gunned down.

It was over in seconds, and the GER snatched victory from the UKR in an amazing display of what I thought was skill, but I was informed it was mostly luck, according to one certain ringleader from the 12th who is either very honest or very modest. I can't name my sources, but let's just say he knows what a HEAP round can do to a chopper.

That was a great set of maps, though I've only played PoE two or three times in the past six months since I started playing PR. I tell ya, the change of pace is like smoking a big fat crack rock and running around a playground with a few dozen hyper six year olds. I'm sure folks got tired of my bitching and whining about lack of twitch skill, limitations of certain kits and missile-firing capabilities of tanks.

Playing with fellow Devils is always great, as is seeing other squads in action. Even when we're on the receiving end...

At one point we were sneaking through the Woodlands towards the rear base when someone noticed that the 12th was nearby. Laying in a bush, I muttered that I expected to get knifed in the head by Mantis at any time. Less than a minute later half the squad ran past me, unnoticed, so I popped up and started firing at their retreating figures. Failing miserably, suddenly one of them circled back and...Mantis knifed me in the head. I guess it should be comforting that my instincts are that spot on.

Sometimes you never know what you have until it is gone. Some of the most intense matches I have seen since I first started playing here. Really enjoyed getting back on POE after a long weekend. Everywhere you turned there was a squad swarming like angry hornets on 5 pots of coffee.
Many of the TG regulars were in their usual form.

I was hiding a few feet away when that happened and as I sat silently and motionless, I thought... that just does not look good.

Enjoyable games tonight. From our secret spawn point on Orel, to taking a secret route on Dnister, to having conversations that were so secret that the respondents didn't answer. Officially I would tell you that I participated in battles ranging from Orel, Dnister, Dnipro, Carpathian and Woodland, confidentially I would agree with Axis that they were some of the best POE games I have played in a while! Thanks to those who participated in my squad, but their names have been blacked out as it is classified top secret.

I told you to lie still until they went away, Young Grasshopper. <turns to Goat>

The Force is strong in this one, but...he has much to learn. Too impatient, he is!

If anyone here has been knifed by Mantis and Santa more than 20 times, raise your hand.

Re: My best POE in months 6/25 10-12 EDT

Yeah it was me that greyed the outpost at the end there, then somehow got shot through a wall and died.
Best moments of the night for me came at whiskeysix's expense. After dying numerous times (on Dnister) in the helo to axis and goat and their mighty tank skills, whiskey got a tank and was over at island. I proceeded to spawn specops, bumrush his tank in a jeep, jump out and plant C4 all over it as he frantically tried to get a bead on me with the turret. Right before I blew the tank, he hopped out and tried to come after me. Much to his dismay, I had seen him hopping out and spun sharply just in time to pop a few rounds into his dome at point blank.

That was great moment number one.
Great moment number two was when he came into the 6th's teamspeak channel after the map and told us how much he hates us all!

Much love W6!

That was a good round, except for some punk on the other team.

Yeah, the POE games seemed really intense last night and were a blast. Thanks for taking the time to do an AAR, Axis.

And as an aside, how are you people awake to post at 3 AM on a schoolnight? That completely baffles me. I'm not that old, but sometimes I feel it, lol.

Re: My best POE in months 6/25 10-12 EDT

Schoolnight? Look at the following ages and ask yourself how many of us are probably in any kind of school that requires an early wakeup:
Axis - 35
WhiskeySix - 31
Belhade - 29
JB4 - 42
Me - 25
Undead - 20

Also, note that not everyone plays from the Eastern time zone. Hell, axis is in oregon, so 3am here is midnight there.

I paid the price this morning when my 9-month old son decided 6:45 would be a good time for breakfast. But it was worth it - last night was that fun.

Re: My best POE in months 6/25 10-12 EDT

Definitely a fun night. Very good turnout considering it was a Monday. One thing I've noticed monitoring game monitor is that the overall mod population seems to have had a noticeable jump since EA's stat system temporarily stopped working a week ago. Tis a shame it takes the temp loss of stats to get people to play mods but hopefully we can leave a good enough impression that they will stick around for a while.

That woodland round definitely had a nice ending. Basically what happened is my squad was sneaking around to take the back south flag and the entire rest of our team was hammering the Watchtower. My squad took our flag with no resistance and then right after that I guess the hammering finally succeeded and Watchtower turned as well.

Re: My best POE in months 6/25 10-12 EDT

^^ we actually had the same idea at the same time. As my squad moved east from Watchtower->Cabin along the south OOB line, I noticed your squad doing the same thing, except along the northern boundry. (At this point we only held 1 of 4 flags - the western-most.. forget the name.) When I saw you were going for cabin, we broke left and hit Mine from the south... both Cabin and Mine fell within seconds of each other, and then less than a minute later the rest of the team took watchtower.
