Ganz in your squad
My first kit was the support and I got the Ganz HMG for my first round of unlocks.
I noticed after picking up many kits lately and notice many of the supports are using LGMs and shotguns. While I'm not discrediting any of the weapons. They all have thier role. Shotgun being the supreme weapon of choice for entry. LMG is a nice support choice for a on-the-go squad. But The HMG seams like it hasn't found a home here at TG. The Ganz HMG. It's not a move and shoot weapon. You have to be still and use it's stights for it's best preformance. You move and yout targeting circle doubles in size. It's got a very slow rate of fire and a long reload time. Why would anyone want this? Point defense. You can hold a point without having to reload and not give your enemy a inch to break through. Suppression. Your Ganz has the best heat dissipation and with the low rate of fire, You have the longest carried coutinuios fire on the block. That means you can hold a point to no end. You can lay suppressive fire to pin enemies. This'll allow your squad to lock and flank a entire squad. While they focus on you and miss that flank. Use 5 seconds bursts and cool down for 2 seconds and repeat. That'll allow you to empty your clip without over heating for about 45 seconds of fire without a reload. Recovery. Teamates down? Well gett're going and lay down some recovery fire and allow your teamates to get in revives what they are needed. You'll lose accuracy with this choice. That's no doubt. But then again we are not here to gloat about points now are we?

I think it just depends on the person using it, maybe some people think it's just not accurate enough.

Re: Ganz in your squad.
I use the Ganz pretty much exclusively (burn in hell ProMod.) And with having to keep up with CQC squads I've pretty much adpated a run-and-gun play style with it. Sitting off in the distance in overwatch doesn't really do it for me, and puts me further away from my squadmates. Granted, this style of play puts you at an uneven match in most circumstances, but it's fun. Especially when you drop the hammer on some shotgun toting support from under 5m.

Re: Ganz in your squad.
the ganz has a place, certainly, but the mobility required in most good squads requires a weapon that can adapt to moving. It's why 80% of the time I want my squad to use light armor.
I'm not saying that defensive positions won't ever be used, but a lot of bf2142 is attacking swiftly, quickly and at once. If the SL sees an opening, then he needs to strike fast with his squad. Squads to a great deal act as self-sufficient units. Because your squad is comprised of at max 6 kits, versatility is of major importance. |

Re: Ganz in your squad
I'll take the Ganz when the squad is in a more static situation, and the LMG when we are assaulting points. And a medic pack for those days I cant hit the broad side of a barn.
Has anyone here worked on tactics for coordinated MG pairs? Sort of like the 'dueling M60' approach in order to cover a single MG's heat down-time? It would be interesting to see if this sort of tactic is viable in a 6 man squad. |

Re: Ganz in your squad
Well, I use the Ganz almost all the time, saving the shotty for when I'm being relaxed and just tooling about. Personally, I think the Ganz helps the squad, but ONLY if the SL uses it correctly. Try this: Send your MG with a medic to flank a hard position, let's say, oh, Statue on Belgrade and you are EU. Your MG fireteam can flank from the west around the building while you move the rest of the squad through the building, with both teams covering angles the other can't hit. Hard to pull off? Probably, but with regular practice and coordination this could be a viable tactic, as long as the medic doesn't go all point-whory and start spamming rockets, because that just says "Hey, I'm over here, shoot me in the face!" or "I'm begging you to knife me and my buddy in the back!".
My $0.02 Oh yeah, by the way, I'm turning 18 tomorrow. WOOT!

Re: Ganz in your squad
I've recently unlocked the Ganz. Been trying to play more Support, and I'm liking it. When you cover a wall with that sucker, they won't stick their heads up long enough to fire any rockets - and they will soon go elsewhere.
![]() Most times you need a Support in your squad anyway - I think the Ganz helps the squad. Can't wait to get the shotgun unlocked too - I've picked it up a few times and it seems pretty awesome. Sure have been killed with it enough...

Re: Ganz in your squad
I have seen this on camp gilb when enemy has harbor and defense has toll - eu-base. You dont need any verbal comms, but they can help for target aquisition. just lay down next to the other mg user and look for targets to chew up.

Re: Ganz in your squad
I've been using the Ganz since I unlocked it awhile ago and it's my preferred weapon of choice for Support. Once you get the aiming down pat, you can just "walk" your fire over your targets and five or six rounds kill them -- and it's usually swift enough that they can't react fast enough to evade. In some crowded situations I've burned through a couple clips of ammo providing suppression fire and targeted fire.
I'm still, though, starting to get used to the shotgun. Since it's a close-up weapon I have a harder time with it becausse my play style is to hit from longer range (~30 - 60m), and the shotgun's effective range tends to be less than 10m. |

Re: Ganz in your squad
Funny this should come up, with TG's style of play this weapon can be of great use to a squad. Supressing fire is the key here. Since we do not play for the points as much as the team-play, the proper use for this weapon ends up being a lot of bullets flying near the enemy. Using it to supress the enemy, while the rest of the squad deploys to take out the enemy, may not get you a lot of points; but it will help the squad more than you storming the flag with them.
I use the stock LMG when I plan on being in a lot of CQC, but I will switch if there will be a need for the supression. The hardest part of this tactic, even on TG, is to make sure that soldier stays where they are told and doesn't get ancy. The most dangerous weapon the enemy has is the freindly soldier that decides to think for themselves rather than follow orders, in most cases.

Re: Ganz in your squad
I'm not sure if its a wee bit overpowered, but I can snipe with the Ganz. And I love it. I routinely kill snipers with one burst. I can drop entire squads with less than half a clip. If fired carefully the Ganz is VERY accurate, combined with its stopping power it is deadly. If you are in a squad full of assault kits it is nice to have a Ganz toting support guy to watch your back.
The only downside is that you have to stop and crouch, and if anyone gets the drop on you before you are crouched, you will die.

Re: Ganz in your squad
its so funny - everyone used to hate the ganz, now with a few tweaks, everyone loves it. Ive used it since the beta and always loved it. It can hold titan corridors like no ones business.

Re: Ganz in your squad
MDFubar, having your soldiers think rather than be a bunch of pavlovian drones is what keeps you from dying all the time. I think about my orders, and while I don't disobey them outright, I do 'bend' them a little sometimes in order to help the overall objective. Example: You want to move to a flag, but you're in enemy territory and all you got is a 6-man squad. I'm usually support, and since I can't 'quickly' revive I usually take it upon myself to be a flanker for the squad, moving anywhere from 10 to 50 meters max parallel to the squad. That keeps me in reaction range if they need bullets or a buncha revives, but lets me engage enemies that could ambush the squad. Say we are moving to Command Post on Berlin, and I stop at Square. The only reason I would is if they know we are there anyways and are shifting troops to engage us. That way, even if we don't take, Outpost isn't it?, we have a jumping-off point that's closer than say, CROSSROADS!

Re: Ganz in your squad
I love me some Ganz. Sure, you've got to lay down and be patient, but there's nothing like the feeling of raining its joy down on an attacking squad from a fixed position.
Except maybe the feeling of the last day of 8th grade.

Some level of thinking is always appreciated, I may have been misunderstood. It is the people who decide to go off and do something totally different because they think that it is a better choice. This does not happen often, and I never have a problem with any SM doing what you describe, just as long as we are all communicating.
