Mic Muting Itself

I really hate not being able to research my own issue and solve it but I'm at wits end. My mic has begun muting itself everytime I load a map on any server making VOIP and TS impossible to use and with the inability to alt+tab I'm getting desperate for a fix. Has anyone had this issue or experience with this? I have searched google and the fixes I found don't help me there. I've been to creatives websit and the fixes there don't pertian to me either. I've done the EA support and basically got an 'I don't know' response. Obviously I have a creative X-Fi card and the mic muting is a recent occurance that just surfaced even though my settings haven't chagned with the card.

Re: Mic muting itself

Yeah, similiar thing happens to me now and then. I'll play a round or two and then TS and VoIP shutdown. Exiting game fixes it, I just keep forgetting to find out how to fix it. Hopefully Crux has some insight. If not, agoogling I shall go!

Re: Mic muting itself

Are you guys using line 1 port? I had a X-Fi Platinum and was using my front try port (Line 2) for my microphone. 2142 uses Line 1 by default and will switch windows default ports, causing your microphone to not work.

If this does not apply at all, try lowering your sound acceleration.

Re: Mic muting itself

Yeah, I'm using a X-Fi platinum too, but have it in the back port on the PCI card, so that shouldn't be the issue. I'll check how I have stuff mapped out though, sounds promising.

Re: Mic muting itself

This may be a longshot, but sometimes if you log into a server (including a local game) that does not have VOIP enabled the game will possibly uncheck your VOIP enabled setting in your profile. I have had this happen to me a few times where it would get stuck off until I went into options and re-enabled it on my profile. If you're not playing on any server but TG this might not be much help, but I would go into your settings and double check that VOIP is enabled there also when it cuts out because it can be disabled on the client side too.

Re: Mic muting itself

I've had 2142 VoIP turn off on me once, not sure how it happened but it took me a while to actually find and fix the issue (who would think a default would change itself)...

Re: Mic muting itself

Thanks guys but I don't think it's VOIP disabling itself because I can't be heard in TS either when the game is up. I can hear myself talking into the mic but when I go into audio settings it mutes itself even though VOIP is enabled. about 1 in 100 tries I can alt+tab out of the game and uncheck mute in the volume panel and it will work but more times than not the game crashes. Today I'm going to reinstall everything, disbale SLI and start over.

Re: Mic muting itself

Hey D0ubl3Hel1x as for not being able to alt-tab out I had the same problem. Did you disable the intro movies? If so re-enable the DICE movie. For some reason as long as the DICE intro movie is allowed to play you can alt-tab out of the game no problem. I think I found that solution here on these forums, not sure though. Hopefully once you get the alt-tab working you might be able to trouble shoot your problem.

Anyway my mic stopped working on me just in game last night but it still worked in Ventrilo. I had to back out of the game entirely and come back in to get it to work again.

Re: Mic muting itself

Thank Astro. I haven't altered any flles within the game. I'm reinstalling windows XP and will try it again but I'm going to install my drivers in a different order and will install the game after all the windows updates are done. I also created a partition to install Vista Ultimate 32x and will see what happens there but I have a feeling I'm going to have issues with the SLI config there. I was really hoping to have this done by tomorrow especially since our fishing trip was canceled due to the enormous amount of rain here in Texas but it doesn't look like it..

IF all this doesn't work I'm either going to have to buy a cd copy of the game (im running EA link)or buy a new sound card. Maybe I'll just do both.

Re: Mic muting itself

yeah I'm getting this problem aswell, for some reason my mic just won't work at times, so I have to go into control panel and try to fix it there. It's an annoying process.

Re: Mic Muting Itself

Mine randomly freaked yesterday, think it might've been the new release of FRAPs changing a setting or something. Head into the volume control panel, options, properties, then click the recording button and click ok. Make sure its Mic that is selected, and then adjust the level while talking on TS to have someone tell you what a good volume level is.

Re: Mic Muting Itself

I've been running a SB Audigy 2 Pro (the one with the front I/O panel) and dealing with this issue since my BF2 days and I was dismayed it hadn't been rectified in BF2142. Each time I joined a server the mute would jump from my Line2/Mic2 to Microphone and no one was able to hear me. I resorted to Alt+Tab'ing to an open Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Voice recording -> Volume... window and muting my Line2 mic so that people could hear me.

This lead to several game lock-ups when I tried tabbing back to the game so you can understand my elation when I found this neat little applet: http://www.muvaudio.com/muvixer/
What this little guy does is scans every few seconds (whatever the user sets it to) checking the status of the which mic line is being used. If set to have Line2 as the Primary mic channel and this setting is changed for whatever reason, Muvixer changes it back!

I've tested it with BF2142, First Strike mod, and Skype; it's worked like a charm. I've also scanned the downloaded installer with avast! and nothing was found wrong with it. Hopefully this helps!
