External software to boost mic gain

My microphone works fine -- people can hear me and all is well.
The problem is, I have to lean forward close to the mic for people to hear me clearly and this is kind of annoying.
I have my headphones on, and the microphone is attached to the monitor. I'm sitting maybe 1-2 feet from the microphone but it is not registering my voice loudly enough.

Can ya'll recommend me external software to boost the microphone volume? I've already gone into Sound Volume->Properties->Recording->Microphone and set it to maximum but that doesn't seem to be helping. I've set the recording treshold in BF2142 to be the lowest possible and that too isn't helping.
Any ideas?

It may be best just to invest in a headset with a mic.

I use this, got it for 20 bucks somewhere (suprised they're 50 according to logitech)

This has been a very good mic for me:

My only problem is that the clips on the cord are meant for a thick cable, but if you just coil it around the cable and clip it to itself, works out perfectly. For 7 bucks, I'm incredibly happy with it.

LOL! 7 bucks, nice deal! Did you also by the headphones separately though? Doesn't sound like you catch sound from speakers when on VOIP.

I would recommend just getting a headset. Game sounds better and your squadmates won't hear feedback form your speakers.

Control panel - Sounds and Audio devices - Voice tab - Voice recording volume - Under Mic Volume click Advanced - Click Mic boost

Re: External software to boost mic gain

Yeah, use a pair of Senns. PMX100s (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826106024), they're just a decent sport pair of headphones for my PC/MP3 player, didn't wanna get something big and clunky for the T and walking around.

I'd do it again if I was starting over again looking for a Mic, but for some people the two wires can be kinda a pain, so headsets work better. All depends on what you're willing to do and looking for.

As for Boom mics (stand ones like what it sounds like you have), they're usually not gonna be easily fixed to use well with VoIP unless they're a nice quality one, sounds like its just the free one that came with your PC I'm guessing.

Plantronics DSP-500 here and I love it. Excellent mic and very good directional sound. I believe the DSP series is now the .Audio series...
