My very own Darwin award submission: Bicycle blues.

I saw this on the news today, and I just submitted it to
http://darwinawards.com .

"Early morning, on the 12th of July in Meerle (Belgium), a man was found hanging from a container, used to collect old clothing, by the head. A bicycle lay flat on the ground beneath his feet.

The 26 years Romanian had been riding his bicycle, when he had spotted this container. He must have been rather poor, and he realized this was a nice opportunity to get some new clothes. So instead of going to the organization that gives away these clothes to poor people, he planned to rob the box.

Apparently the opening was too high to be able to reach in deep enough to get the the clothes. He supported his bike against the side of the bunker, he opened the drop-down hatch on it. Then he reached into the opening, putting his head through it entirely. How exactly it happened no one knows, but his bike ended up flat on the ground. The lid on the container must have slid down like a guillotine, and pinched him right at the neck.

If you know Dutch, you can read the whole story here. I haven't found an English source yet, possibly there aren't any for now. I'm pretty sure it qualifies as a good Darwin submission. His actions weren't the brightest, and his dna has effectively been removed from the gene pool."

It's been allowed into the "slush pile" where people can vote on it:

or later

I did too. That's one of the better ones I have seen.

Thanks for the votes! Although I don't think there is anything you can win, I'm wondering how the story will travel the tubes.
