1stMIP SL Handbook (PR v0.5)

As we announced a while ago, 1stMIP terminated its BF2 activities and completed its transition to Armed Assault.

As per request from Wimpinator (A TGU instructor), we are publishing all 1stMIP BF2 related documentation.

These documents were going to be published on TG forums when completed but since we no longer work on them, it is better to put them in this incomplete/unedited form rather than letting them collect dust in our archives.

We hope these will be help TGU training efforts. Good luck gentlemen. It was a pleasure to share the battlefield with you all.

1stMIP HQ

=====================================

1st Mechanized Infantry Platoon
Squad Leader Handbook

Plan One Step Ahead

- Focus on immediate tasks at hand (checking flanks, proper use of defensive positions and assets, requesting supplies/artillery, etc) BUT try to plan at least one move ahead.

Ex. If allied forces captures that next objective, we must rapidly deploy there to defend. Do we have a transport vehicle? Where? Is it secured and parked for rapid departure? Did you brief the squad about this plan and do they know where to board? Were squad members reminded to be within 10-20 sec distance to vehicle?

Advance And Secure (AAS) Secure Strategy

- 9 out of 10 times, almost all the allied forces will be on offensive. As a 1stMIP SL, you must first focus on securing and defending the base given in HQ defend orders. If you prefer to play it safe, joining the assault should be considered if only an allied squad is relieving us from defensive duties. As soon as the next objective is captured, we must mobilize and take over the defensive duties at the new frontline.

Platoon Operations

- When we have more than 6 members reporting for duty, a second squad can be formed.
- SLs of these squads uses TS to stay in contact and coordinate to function as a platoon.
- One of the SLs create 1stMIP-I squad, the other forms 1stMIP-II (both locked).
- SL of 1stMIP-I invites the first or last 5 names in his squad management list while SL of 1stMIP-II stands by.
- When 1stMIP-I is formed, second SL invites the remaining members to 1stMIP-II.
- In the following round, SLs switch places. SL of first squad takes charge of second squad and waits for the formation of first squad before sending invites.

Squad Leader Duties

- To perform the duties listed under this topic, stay back and give command to squad sergeant especially if there is no alternative spawn point for the squad (Ex. SL is crewman in APC).
- Assign tasks and objectives to your sergeant and let him decide the details of execution.
- Dont use radio (VOIP) unless absolutely necessary, FTL needs full radio time to coordinate squad.
- Focus on providing support to squad. Dont micromanage.

1) Intel: Request from CO.
2) Observe: Use your binocular. Identify targets.
3) Backup/Coordinate: If needed request backup (CO radio / Team chat). Coordinate with second 1stMIP squad (if available) or other allied squads.
4) Artillery: Request from CO.
5) Supplies: Request from CO.
6) Map and objectives: Relay info on identified targets and friendly squad positions. Based on coming intel, update objectives and mark them on map (Enemy rally points to destroy, positions to secure, etc)
7) Fire support: If there is no big risk (Ex. losing an APC), provide long range fire support.
8) Relocate: If enemy discovers the location of SL, RP or APC (spawn points), relocate. Dont give them a second chance to attack the same position.
9) Evaluate: Is objective achievable? Discuss with FTL and a) continue b) abort mission

Squad Leader as a Fire Team Leader

A 1stMIP SL can also lead his team as FTL of Bravo. This is especially effective when an alternative spawn location (=rally point) is available. See FTL Handbook.
