Interesting Problem
For some reason my frame rate will go from around 40 to 10. It keep going up and down last night. I haven't tried it today yet. Vanilla doesn't do it. I was wondering if I need to uninstall/install again. Maybe even download the mod again, perhaps something got corrupted? Just looking for thoughts and see if anyone else experienced the same thing last night.
thanks.

Re: Interesting Problem
Couple things:
First - PoE2 is considerably more graphics intensive than vanilla. You'll probably want to lower your settings a bit. There's more detailed effects, much larger maps, and it uses a lot more statics (buildings, benches, trees, etc, etc) Second - the smoke in PoE2 is a lot thicker than vanilla - it's actually useful. When someone drops a smoke grenade at my feet, my framerate goes from ~60fps to under 20. Last thing - how much RAM do you have? BF2 is a memory hog to begin with, and although the devs have tried optimizing things, PoE2 uses even more RAM. Some frame rate drops could be due to not having enough ram, where windows has to swap things in and out from your HD. (edit: Assault on Odessa seemed to be the biggest culprit last night... lots of statics, lots of players, and long view distances caused lag for many players) |

Re: Interesting Problem
I also suggest looking at your AntiAlias settings. I get 70-90 fps most of the time, but with AA on and someone throws a smoke grenade, it drops to about 10.
This said, I think there were some lag issues last night as well causing some choppiness. Whether because of network issues or map optimization I don't know. |

Re: Interesting Problem
I noticed that before when looking at the setting. Everything was on medium except textures. Didn't think anything of it since BF2 was playing fine. I'll turn that down to medium also.

Re: Interesting Problem
checkout the bottom half of this page: http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_5.html
Instead of running all medium, you can run somethings on high and should run other things on low. I've got a low/mid-end system (7800, 2GB, 1.8GHz coreduo) and found this to be the best balance of frame-rate and visuals: (Top to bottom in the setup screen) Terrain = Low >> how far out grass renders... turning this down helps and doesn't bother me aesthetically. Textures = medium >> works for my 256MB video card Geometry = high >> controls when you first see vehicles in the distance Effects = medium >> mainly to see smoke trails from jets Lighting = low >> mainly to help frame rates Dynamic Shadows = off >> again to help frame rates Dynamic Light = medium >> sacrifice some fps to see muzzle-flash effects helps identify targets |

Re: Interesting Problem
I will say that things are generally a lot choppier in 1.7, let alone the lag issues that were flying around, last night and today. I think everyones's gonna be lowering their visuals from where we ran with the last release. I've got a decent rig, too, but we'll see what happens.
I did hear from a few people that the lag was unique to our server, though. Any thoughts on that? |

Re: Interesting Problem
My frames are usually 90+ but on the new maps I'm getting 30-50. The only one that was still good was Blue Nile last night. I even set everything to low but it didn't help. I don't think it's strictly the server and we need some solution.

Re: Interesting Problem
It's probably not helping your situation
I think it depends per map, but on fallen, my grass only renders out to around 40m.... sounds short, but it's actually pretty far on fallen. Except for some of the waist-high stuff (wheat at farms), you never want to hide in grass in BF2.... use bushes and trees. |

Re: Interesting Problem
Also be aware of Lighting settings for the same reason... You may think you're hiding in a shadow, but to your enemy you're in plain sight.
