Seeking your 1.7 lag report
We have several devs that read this forum so for anyone that lags a lot or on a certain map it would be great if you could detail everything here. Defintely would like to hear from anyone that lags on the older maps now. Odessa we know is laggy since its so big. Olesko and Risen are laggy since everyone is bunched up. If your lagging on other maps please post about it with any info.

Re: Seeking your 1.7 lag report
Saturday night, 21/Jul/07:
Guardian 64 - no lag of any form, normal frame rates Odessa 64 - no lag of any form, but played as commander the whole round Berezne 64- no lag of any form, normal frame rates Olesko 64 - no lag of any form, normal frame rates Berezan Island 64- no lag of any form, normal frame rates Highway to Hell 64- no lag of any form, normal frame ratesCrimea 32 - no lag of any form, normal frame rates Crimea 32 - no lag of any form, normal frame rates GPU: 7800 CPU: 1.8GHz core duo RAM: 2GB Video Settings (top to bottom): Low, Medium, High, Medium, Low, off, off, 2x AA, low AF edit: If you have any "lag" be sure to describe it and where you were on the map/what you were doing. There's "rubber-banding" which is true "lag", but we want to know about unusually low graphics performance (low framerates) as well. |

Re: Seeking your 1.7 lag report
All the maps ran fine for me except for Odessa. It was not low frames, it was massive stuttering, while turning 180 degrees in any direction. Frames were normal though, I alt-tabbed to desktop, and opened task manager and set BF2.exe to high priority and it actually helped a bit, just a little though.
*edit, this stuttering/rubberbanding was happening mainly in the central part of the map, due to so many statics.* All other maps that I played ran fine, and normal fps'. Crimea Berezan Island Olesko Acorn GPU: eVGA 8800GTS 320MB CPU: Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz RAM 2x1GB Dual Channel DDR2 PC2 800Mhz Video Settings: All settings are on high, with 4x AA ON, and running @ 1680x1050 res @60hz I average around 80+ Fps with those settings. |

Re: Seeking your 1.7 lag report
I can't make a report like Whiskey did, but I can say that there was sparse lag during the rounds I played on last night, which included Guardian and Odessa. I cannot be sure, but my 100+ ping may have something to do with it.

Re: Seeking your 1.7 lag report
General:
I had to chance my effects settings to low as I got extremely heavy lag in smoke. With Effects on medium, my fps drops to 15 even offline, on Low I stay at 30-40. I suspect this is from the new smoke effects. Friday night, 20 Jul Rubber banding a-plenty in general. Rivne 64 - Lots of stuttering & choppiness. Other maps didn't seem to have significant lag issues. Saturday night, 21 Jul No rubber banding, no significant lag issues with maps played that I remember. I'll start to keep notes on specific maps and what issues I see as I see them. GPU: 7600GT CPU: 1.8GHz core 2 duo - E6300 RAM: 2GB 1680x1050 Terrain: Low Effects: Low/Medium (Smoke note above) Geometry: High Texture:Medium Lighting:Low Dynamic Shadows:Off Dynamic Light:Medium Anti aliasing:Off Texture filtering:High |

Re: Seeking your 1.7 lag report
Rubber Banding is usually caused by server lag..
BF2 has had alot of issues with reguards to serverlag, long before any of the mods came out.. Alot of lag actually started when Special Forces came along. The server we had was rated for a 64player server, but we locked it down to 48 to help reduce the server lag. So keep that in mind.

Re: Seeking your 1.7 lag report
In the previous version i had no lag at all, but now i have lag in nearly every map and the severity of it (as in frequency of stuttering) depends on the map.
Worst Lag Rivne Highway to Hell Risen Medium Lag Odessa Acorn Crimea Berezen Island Blue Nile Berezne Low Lag Orel Gaurdian, interestingly enough, did not lag me at all. I cant remember any other maps and how they affected me off the top of my head. System Specs: 1 GB ram 7800 GT AMD Athlon XP 3000+, 2.1 ghz There is definitely something taxing systems, and apparently it hits lower end systems quite a bit more. If I were to throw a guess out there, perhaps the mortars are slowing things down because i vaguely remember the artillery having a similar problem in either this game or another mod. I know myself and luckyshot have to use an entire minute to alt tab just to kick someone with BF2CC now. |

Re: Seeking your 1.7 lag report
I highly suggest you guys clear your BF2 caches, it is more then likely BF2 is still loading the old PoE cached files, and it could be causing you these lag problems.

Re: Seeking your 1.7 lag report
Odessa was horrible, especially when turning or panning. Others were OK, Odessa stands out though. Load times were considerably longer. I'll clear my cache before I play again and see if that helps. Not sure how it would help with Odessa since that was the only time I have played it.
I like the new version and the fact there are new players showing up, but the team play leaves something to be desired with all the new players. AMD 3700+ 2GB Ram ATI X800 XT |

Re: Seeking your 1.7 lag report
You'll find it here:
Quote:
To clean it, just delete the weird folder name (e.g., {D3456...}) and the next time you restart BF2 and load a map, the game wil reoptimize its shaders. |

Re: Seeking your 1.7 lag report
I may be alone in this, but here goes.
Loading maps between rounds is taking an extraordinarily long time to complete. At a minimum, I wait between 5-7 minutes to load most maps. Earlier today, while the server was hosting Crimea, I timed my log in to coincide with the map change so as to avoid loading one map only for it to end 2 minutes later. Regardless, loading Crimea took a very long time... I didn't have a stop watch with me but it was on the order of around 10 minutes while it cycled through all the assets and resources before verification. Verifying client data also took roughly the same length of time. Once I finished loading everything and was finally able to spawn in, the time left on the clock was 28:37 minutes (I should have taken a screen shot, and I'm kicking myself now for not doing so). I'm told that TG's round lengths are set to 45:00 minutes. That's a 17:23 minute load time in total. I was about ready to ALT-F4 and give up for the night, but I wanted to see just how drawn out this would be. I managed to grab a snack, chat on the phone, clean up my desk (I forgot that I had wood under all that debris ), and a bunch of other stuff during that time, so it wasn't a complete waste. Also, the frame rates during the remaining minutes of the map where extremely low. It took me ages to cross over from the USMC UCB spawns over to the beach flag. Later in the evening, Odessa started off much the same way, sans the hellishly long load interval (although it still wasn’t shorter than 5 minutes total). It was just about unplayable for the first couple of mints once I was in, but it cleared up after a while like BF2 stuff normally does for me. I usually get system lag like this when I clear caches or when loading a map for the first time, but it usually clears up within a couple of minutes and it isn't much of a problem from that point on. So, to eliminate any possible causes on my end, I'll clear my caches, tinker with my settings (currently all set at medium’ish), and defrag my hard drive tonight and see what results I get tomorrow some time. Apart from that PoE2 has been brought to a high polish from what I’ve seen of 1.70 so far. Peace.
