Herzog vs. PK-74
Just curious whether anyone else out there uses the Herzog attachment?
I personally love that shotty attached to my baur but I've also become addicted to the rocket attachment and at times it hard to choose between the two. Normally I will use the herzog attachment if I am using the baur because it makes up for the baur's low clip size and the baur is great at long ranges so many times the rockets arent neccesary when using it. In reverse if I am playing a map that is constant close quarters fighting I will many times take the voss+rockets to make up for the voss's long range deficiencies. Also normally my first field upgrade is the advanced ammo clip to increase the rockets/herzog ammo to 4. I have found this to be extremely useful with the herzog and that one extra shot has saved my life on many occasions. Just curious if anyone else uses the herzog or what their opinions on it are b/c I rarely ever see anyone else but me using it.

Re: Herzog vs. PK-74
I almost never use it. I will pack it if I know we will have lots of guys with rockets and we will be facing a lot in close quarters combat.
typically, I look at it like a spare gun for when you run out of ammo or are camping a doorway.

Re: Herzog vs. PK-74
I used the Herzog almost exlcusively after unlocking them, and I kept using them for a while after I unlocked the rockets. In the beginning I didn't know how to use the PK Rockets so I just ignored them altogether, but then I saw Bom's tutorial video and things just clicked. Granted I'm still not as proficient as some people (like Bom), but I at least know how to effectively use them. Almost always, you'll need the rockets. The only occasion I can think of where the Herzog is a better attachment is during Titan defense, but rockets can still be applied then as well.
If you REALLY need to use a shotgun in a situation, pull out your trusty Clark 15B.

Re: Herzog vs. PK-74
I love rockets. Especially with the NS unlock of the extra rocket. It makes getting that medic much easier. If you learn to time it right you can get the medic and the dead guy again. I don't really know of anytime in 2142 when you are in really close combat enough to warrant the lose of the rockets.

Re: Herzog vs. PK-74
^agreed. The rockets are amazingly versatile, and if you can find me a a map where every guy I fight will be guranteed to be at less than 20 meters, then sure. But rockets are perfect for supression, prenading(well, prerocketing :lol
and flushing people into the open. Also, you can do a colossal amount of damage to faily tightly packed infantry, you can destroy fav's easily, clear rooftops without going up there, get snipers off monorails (the a-typical rocket bait place to snipe from )Also, if you use the baur, it makes a little more sense to equip the shotty, however, the baur spits out more damage per second than the voss, and you shouldnt really be using more than 5 rounds per kill MAXIMUM. I average about 2.75 sots per kill at CQC with the baur, and hence the mag size is plenty. If I do equip shotty to sweep and clear a place liek central on gib, I will usually pick up a rocket kit from a corpse afterwards.

Re: Herzog vs. PK-74
Rockets are ridiculously stupidly overpowered. It doesn't matter what the hell situation you're in, the mere act of switching to them will almost always guarantee you at least one easy kill per magazine. Two if you have that asinine NS unlock.
Probably the one weapon above any other in the entire game that needs to be beaten to death with the nerf bat. Christ, they're designed so that you hardly even need to *AIM* the damn things. (Yes, I hate rockets with a passion. Yes, I use them all the time, because they're the third easiest way to get kills in the game, the first two being the 'fire and forget' motion mines and sentry gun) |

Re: Herzog vs. PK-74
Kit customization is a great feature of Battlefield 2142 and both the Herzog AR-Shotgun and PK-74 AR-Rocket are quality unlocks. While the shotgun attachment may not seem to be as popular on our servers, it certainly has its place and there are players that use it with some frequency. It is a excellent choice for situations where you want to pack a punch in close quarters without switching away from the Assault class.

Re: Herzog vs. PK-74
Sometimes I think about using the Herzog unlock. Then I kill Uranium and 5 of his squadmates all at once with a clip of rockets, and I forget all about it.

Re: Herzog vs. PK-74
If I am squad leading and we are tasked with defending an area with high potential for CQC, then I will occasionally equip the Herzog in place of the rockets. I have to say though, 99.9% of the time I use rockets.

Re: Herzog vs. PK-74
I have to agree with the PK Rocket camp here. I haven't used the herzog in months. I understand that it works well in tight places but I find myself in long range combat or fighting people behind cover more than I find myself in CQC. I even use the rockets on titan defense because it is great for clearing out the ducts.
One feature of the rockets that no one seems to have mentioned yet is the adjustable range. A lot of times someone will be hiding behind an object (a low wall, a vehicle, a supply crate, etc.). I love how you can target that object, zoom in to set the range, the click your mouse wheel up once to increase the range by 5 meters. This way you can put the rockets right on top of their head instead of at the edge of their cover. This is also a great way to clear a roof or track a running target with rockets. Just adjust the range as needed and let em fly. Mwah ha ha ha ha! ![]() -Aruncado |

Re: Herzog vs. PK-74
Herzog can kill 1-2 people at 0-10m
Rockets can kill 1-n people from 20-300m, where n is a finite group of people in a cluster. (To be more realistic, usually can kill 6 people with a rocket salvo, 2 rockets to two groups of 3 people... it happens). |
