G5 mouse and BF2142

Just wondering if there's anyone else on here that owns a Logitech G5 Laser Mouse and customizes it for Battlefield 2142. Not sure if this mentioned before or not. I didn't find anything when I searched (not very hard, I'll admit), so here goes...

As you may or may not already know, the G5 mouse wheel has the scroll left and right ability. By using the software that comes with the mouse, you can customize the use of this feature, along with many others...

For BF2142, I have the scroll left set to 6, scroll right set to 7 (grenades), sensitivity increase set to 1 (knife), sensitivity decrease set to 2 (pistol), the thumb button set to 3 (main weapon/rate of fire). It's great for assault, since flicking the wheel left brings up the rockets/shotgun when using the Baur and Voss (why EA has the Krylov and Scar's 5 and 6 buttons still reversed to this day is beyond me).

It's pretty simple, if you don't already know how to do this. Just go into your Logitech mouse settings and change the buttons to the Keystroke Assignment of your choosing. No in game changes needed. Just make sure you aren't using the numpad keys when inputting the keystroke assignments.

So yeah, it may be a little unconventional when comparing this method to mouse wheel and keyboard weapon switching, but it works well for me. I'm not big on using the mouse wheel to switch weapons in this game, but I wanted to find an alternative way to switch weapons quickly on the move.

I don't have a G5 but a similiar MS laser. I never thought to use the scroll left/right. I use my thumb button to run VOIP, since the 3 is right above W, it is real easy to hit quickly. If I push the scroll down, it selects the defrib.

I think I'd rather have the MX518 with two thumb buttons then the left-right tilt thing that used to screw me up a lot (found it easy to accidentally click the wheel and change weapons)

I have the Razer Diamondback. It comes with 4 additional buttons, two on the left and two on the right. I have crouch binded into the upper left side and my grenades bound to the lower left side. I can hit both of these with my thumb. On the left side I have fraps and the mouse sensitivity binded. My middle mouse button is set to prone.

Re: G5 mouse and BF2142

I have my tilt wheel right=3 and left=5 bound using set point. I use the older version of set point. When I upgraded to the newer version I had issues with irratic dpi settings. The thumb button is bound to the v key for voip. I have been pleased with the mouse. It has helped my accuracy a great deal. Did have to send it back to newegg because the right click stopped working. I wasn't able to get the keys to bind using the in game options which seems weird considering Logitech makes a "BF2142" edition mouse. You would think they could get on the same page.

I have the G5, I have my left scroll set to primary weapon, and my right scroll set to rockets. Thumb is VOIP and sensitivities I leave alone since it is handy to turn them up or down depending on the situation, that and I don't like taking my finger off the firing button

I have a small wireless laser mouse. All standard controls except the thumb button is set to crouch. I can't get the scroll left and right to come up on 2142 either though.

Re: G5 mouse and BF2142

I own a G5 as well (the 2007 edition) and my configuration, which has worked very well, is:

scroll left = press button "5"
scroll right = press button "6"

first thumb button = press "V" (ingame VoIP talk key)
second thumb button = press "." (teamspeak talk key)

My left and right scrolls are set to Keystroke Assignments in SetPoint. Click on the button you want to customize and change it's task to Keystroke Assignment. Box 3a in SetPoint, you specify which key you want to assign it to. Just make sure when you input that key you are not using the numpad keys because it won't work.

I also forgot to mention if you change your sensitivity buttons and you have SetPoint set up to use multiple sensitivies, it might still switch the mouse sensitivity when you are playing. To remedy this, just remove all the sensitivity settings except the one you use.

I recently started to customize the sensitivity buttons, since I rarely change it from 1000dps (which is what I normally use).

My mouse is that too, it isnt even optical, it has a ball I have to celan out. I ususally clean about 2hrs before a clan war. All these fancy controls are simple making up for peoples clumsiness with a keyboard

Thats old school, I remember the old ball mouses and the pain they are to clean. That fact alone makes an optical mouse worth every extra penny in my opinion. My hats off to you if you can do well with a ball mouse, that is a definate handicap.

Re: G5 mouse and BF2142

I used to use a ball forever and it really can detract sadly. Just so much slower/not accurate (at least mine).

Got a mx518 now. Have mouse buttons set to primary weapon and pistol, and middle mouse to spawn screen. Can never understand how people can use mouse buttons for crouch/voip. I'd find it so weird holding down a button on the thing I look around with.
