Small arms fire on choppers
Sorry if this is an old topic but...
One thing I don't see people do often is shoot at choppers with small arms. When you're trying to stay hidden or in low-number player games it isn't a good thing to do. But, if it is a full, busy game it is usually good to shoot those wankers. On a few occassions where whole squads open up on 'em I have scored kills with just a pistol or shotgun. Maybe one day I'll get a knife kill on one The support light mg should always shoot at 'em, too.It also keeps them on their toes a little more... multiple hits from many directions lights up the hit detector and can make it useless. Prolly should alert the SL & get permission to do it first, tho. |

Shotgun? I dont think they do any damage at all to it. But yes, it is a great idea to open up fire on them if you got the ammo on a full server as the damage can add up fast and at the very least send them back to camp and out of your hair sooner than they would like.

Re: Small arms fire on choppers
I quite often start hammering away with a support weapon at choppers, often enough the pilot will be someone who wants to whore it so much they run back for repairs after only minor damage, so it keeps them supressed and away from your team atleast.

^ LoL! While I won't dismiss the possibility out of hand; in general, I don't think a PoE dev is gonna be 13 years old. And I know for a fact that Daarken's no kid; his voice is too deep.
![]() On topic, I've taken down the Hind a couple of times with the MG-36. Roof tops and high crested hills make for excellent cover and it's especially hard for the pilot to retaliate if you can scoot around the opposite side and continue firing when he makes a return pass over your position. Since the Hind is a low-flying, heavy gun boat with a fixed, forward facing auto-canon (limited firing arc), he'll never be able to get a good targeting sight on you and maintain level flight without crashing if you pull it off right. I suspect concentrated fire would bring these birds down faster than most people might suspect.

K well as one of the primary chopper sluts on this server (whore makes it sound like I do it for money, I do it by choice), small arms fire never has and never will scare me enough to make me leave a flag. It just gives away your position so that I can put a rocket up your butt.

Pfft!!! Wait until I start putting my shock paddles to work. I'll fry his chopper's electrical system faster than you can say "Clear!"

Re: Small arms fire on choppers
As long as we're talking smack, I should point out that anathema was one of the guys I've shot down in a Hind with the MG-36... twice.
Oh, and unless I'm mistaken, he's also crashed his chopper into a roof top trying to gun me down after having revealed my position to him. I admit my memory is a little fuzzy on that last one. It could have been someone else. And there are so many other places to hide from the Hind while laying small-arms fire down on it.While both the Tiger and the Cobra present their own challenges with their turreted autocanons; bottom line, I don't think I'd be so quick to dismiss small-arms fire on choppers. Not on the Hind at any rate. At the very least, I'd say it's a modest deterrant when no other AA pieces are available. For the Hinds that I didn't wreck, the pilots most certainly turned away once they started smoking. As far as I'm concerned, I've already established adequate proof of concept to carry on, as it were.

Re: Small arms fire on choppers
Last night on Crimea before I was called away by a screaming baby, my squad opened up fire on the cobra with just small arms and some help from the dozer after a few seconds. It took only a couple seconds with all of us firing on him to make that sucker smoke and run for home.
