*idea* Martial Law mod
I originally posted this on totalbf2142 but didn't get any response, so I figured I'd post it here.
---- Calling all mod makers. I have an idea for a battlefield 2142, and 2 mod which shall be called Martial law. For 2142, the idea is an early 22nd century Britain which undergoes a period of martial law whereby massive urban and rural battles occur between the EU Stability army, which has recently replaced all soverign nation militaries symbolicly in the EU. The opposing force will be a citizen militia calling themselves the Kingdom Preservation Militia or KPM. I'm sketchy on the KPM name though. The catalyst will be the beginning iceage causing massive looting for food and supplies as the temperatures rapidly drop. My stylistic goal is to have the EU army reskinned to a slightly more retro (relative to the year 2142) look as far as clothing/uniform for each team.. the EU having still more advanced small arms weaponry, but the KPM having improvised weapons as a counterbalance. This will require some creative thinking. I'm not native to the UK, so I don't have any ideas as far as settings go. I would like to have 6-10 maps for the game initially with another 3 each release. There should be water borne vehicles also. Now, the idea for battlefield 2 is similar, only its going to occur in the present time, the latter half of 2008, just before the election. A massive terrorist attack occurs somewhere on US soil, and consequently the Bush administration by executive order becomes the sole control of the government, suspending congress and ordering the judiciary department to comply with mandates or face charges of treason to be enforced by the newly created homeland defense force, charged with enforcing law at the local level, effectively replacing and becoming a nationwide police force given more powers. The constitution is abridged, and several states initially led by a parstnership between texas, arizona, california and massachusetts secede from the union and declare war, calling themselves the Independent Constitutional States of America, lead by the majority of the civilian active reservists and several entirely civilian militias. Massive causualties are sustained on either side, until several more states join in the coming years. At that point, the newly formed North American Union forces mexico and canada to join the fight, initially both siding with the Federals, but parts of Canada and mexico join the ICS. Eventually the EU and newly formed Pan Asian Alliance join the fight and half the world is in the midst of war. This mod is looking at roughly 30 maps covering many states. Rather than having 5 seperate possible forces to fight with, they will be blended together based on alliance and location. Finally I would like to state that I have no experience whatsoever with modding battlefield 2 and this will be entirely created by you, for you. You will work for it. Its going to be entirely community based and developed and funded. So if you don't like it, then it won't get made. What do you think? |

Re: *idea* Martial Law mod
I think it's quite a good idea, I've been wondering why no-one has modded 2142 yet. Problem is, in 2142, the ice sheets have advanced all the way to southern france, so Britain is completely covered. You could still set it a bit earlier, though.
Personally, I'd like to see the buildings (will they remain as they are now? I don't think much will've changed by 2142) enterable, so you can shoot through windows and things. for settings, the UK is mostly rolling countryside and cities. A few 'mountains', but they're only small. Well, actually, parts Wales and Scotland (especially Scotland) and the south west are very hazardous (namely the moors). Maybe by 2140, the east midlands could be frozen tundra, making a kind of desert area good for tank fights (since it's all flat now anyway) obviously, I havn't traveled far from my little township, but I'm sure there are some places where you could stage beach landings (hastings?). just my 2pence |

Wow, this sounds ambitious!
All good ideas though I think, just sounds like a lot, 30 maps?! Wish I could help, but I don't have the time do this much.

Indeed, this is ambitious. I must say though, the BF2 storyline is a little controversial and has a one major discrepancy: Texas is one of the most conservative states in the US. It wouldn't make much sense for such a conservative state to break off from the Union than a more liberal state like New York.
