Not to my knowledge, but several of the maps use the 32-person version.

Funny you should put it like that. I am leaning towards agreement that a smaller server might be a good idea.

I haven't played pub for a long time and jumped on the TG server yesterday for about 4 rounds. I gotta say that even with 50 players, the maps are starting to seem really cramped. Sure, I'm used to 8v8 and 6v6 play, but the engagements on large servers really aren't very challenging anymore. 70% of my kills are on people who aren't even looking my way and the rest tend to be 50 / 50 due to shoddy rego with so many players.

I get the feeling that a smaller server will encourage more direct engagements, less spam and smarter play rather than just lining people up like clay pigeons.

I agree 110%. When I do decide to go pubbing off of the TG server I usually visit smaller servers or servers with low players. When the NS server was at 32 players last friday it was perfect.

The latest Frosty Friday was hosted on 32 player maps with only 32 players, and I have to say, it was the most enjoyment I've had in 2142 (minus tournament play and the occasional scrim) that I've had in a long time. Tactics begin to play a part in the game again, which is something I think the higher play count severely limits.

When the 9th goes pubbing, we usually stick to the 20 or 32 player servers.

I would love to see an unranked 32 player server.

I think it is the tourney play that does it. On a smaller server, you actually have time to think and execute some tactics. The best part is, the usual TG server choke points are easier to manage and do not stay choke points for long.

The 9th played on a small server Monday night before jumping back on the TG conquest server. When we arrived on the conquest server, I was immediately put off by the constant choke point grind.

To sum up... I would also like to see TG with a 32 player server.

I believe there are more and more TG players that feel this way, myself included.

Frosty Friday has been a very enjoyable experience at 32 players.

I believe before Northern Strike was released there was a 32 player "City Maps" server... it was probably back in January or February timeframe. I know I enjoyed several rounds on that server with a few members of the 7th.

Re: 32 player second server discussion

Variety is always good. I too like to look for smaller servers, but I always find myself back on TG becuase of the fun tactical game play

Re: 32 player second server discussion

First off, I am completely for a 32 man server. It is a more satisfying way to play the game because it's easier to make sure everyone is on the ball, and the singular player contributions stand out more on smaller servers -- you're more likely to consider your opinion of someone who TK'd you when you saw them, alone, camping the Toll Station Gates when the fight was at the Harbour. And you just don't notice things like that on a chaotic 52+ man server.

Also, echoing Bomm's comments here. I've noticed lately that the vast majority of my kills are against people who are too lost to even shoot straight.
And I don't mean this is a good thing at all -- when I come across people that are half-way decent, I start using tactics that I use against newbs and I get shot to hell. It really is a case that your skills fall or rise to match who you are playing aginst.

Great idea, I'd love to see it implemented.

As a supporting member, I'd love it. I've yet to be on the conquest server when there's more than 50% TG players and while many of the pubbies play well - I think that a server full of TG only players (because of it's size) would be a great time.

So I guess you're saying you don't like choke points?

Re: 32 player second server discussion

There are times I like the larger server... and then there are times where the larger server makes me cry.

Last night, I died literally 5 times in a row within a second of spawn from random 'nade/rocket/APC/Orbital spam. It could just be because Com tower is a horrible place to try to defend tho. *shakes fist at Com Tower*
