Announcing unranked Monday!

Announcing Unranked Monday!
Server IP 64.34.184.33:17567

On Mondays our second server will be in unranked mode. In order for a server to be ranked certain server settings need to remain at settings determined by EA. If these settings are changed the server automatically becomes unranked. Unranking our second server gives us the option of changing several game play related server settings.

We are going to test out changes to several server settings related to game play over the course of the next few Mondays. In order for this to succeed, we need the support of the community. Come on over to the 2nd server for some unranked goodness!

This week things will remain fairly normal. In future weeks we would like to manipulate several server settings in an attempt to improve game play and tactics.

To give people some insight into some of the relevant server settings we can change:

• Ticket ratio (this setting determines the total number of tickets)
• Man down time (amount of time you have from death until you can no longer be revived (default: 15 seconds))
• Respawn time (time from death until you respawn (default: 15 seconds 15))
• Allow external vehicle views (default: allow)
• hit indicator (default: on)

The settings for this week’s Unranked Monday:

Infantry maps.
Default settings save for a few convenience things like only needing 2 to start a game.

Please help us make 2142 unranked night a success by joining us for our inaugural night this evening!!!

I'll help seed the server in a couple of hours. Also, this just occured to me last night:

Quote:
• Allow external vehicle views (change from on to off)
You could use the c key while inside a vehicle to look around and see people you normally couldn't. Never tried it but it's occured to me that it could be considered cheating.

This is not cheating and is considered part of the game by many. It clearly detracts from the realism of the game as it provides a god's eye view of things that would not normally be seen.

Re: Announcing unranked Monday!

I use my different views all the time. It wouldn't be unrealistic at all to stick my head out of the turret and look behind me or to look to the left of my gunship cockpit.

Don't like that explanation? Every Minivan, SUV, or Truck currently on the market comes with optional rear-camera display screen. If this feature isn't in military vehicles in 40 years then something went horribly wrong.

Re: Announcing unranked Monday!

What is very unrealistic is the visual clarity you get when you take a 3rd person perspective. What is more realistic is mouselook, the tv missile camera, or the typcial electronic weirdness you have to look through when you are in a vehicle like the walker or apc.

Although, judging from the optics on the tv missile camera, I think we need to assume that visual clarity is not all that important in the future. Perhaps they use the force in the year 2142?

Clearly the visual clarity suffers due to the sheer amount of spoofing, anti-spoofing and virus protection the missile needs because of the built in vulnerability that wireless guidance brings. There just isn't enough bandwidth to carry all of that and a pretty picture. God, sometimes you guys want all the tea in China.

Re: Announcing unranked Monday!

For someone who hates flag hopping, I actually found I enjoyed it tonight. We would move on a flag, usually take it, and then move on to the next all the while attempting guess where the opposing team was going to hit next and "cut them off at the pass" if you will.

I heard two complaints about the server being unranked, and they were both about field upgrades which I could see being a real hassle for some. Overall, I don't recall seeing one bunnyhopper or UCB raid and when asked, most people were OK with leaving the armor out of the fight.

Sure I would have liked to see more players on the server to fill it out a bit, but I enjoyed it immensly. I blame TeamFortress 2 for low turnout .

Re: Announcing unranked Monday!

there were some mild hopping issues, a fighting CO here and there during the hour I played. this is much less than we typically see. so there was a smacktard reduction factor going on when I played which was pretty nice.

I did enjoy the suspense of hanging out waiting for the instadeath that followed being in the way of a solid squad.

Some fierce fighting on carebare was the most memorable. The overall skill level of the server was improved as well. most players had high situational awareness which made for some interesting battles.

I know lots of guys from the 3rd were playing team fortress 2 which was released recently. that could account for some of the low turnout. but playing with the 20 or so players we had on the full carebare map still felt pretty full at times.

Re: Announcing unranked Monday!

TF2 beta hasn't been released yet. At least not as I type this. We were playing Peggle Extreme and comparing scores while waiting though.

2.5 mil, btw.

I loved those two Cerbere rounds, especially with the long fighting around the EU main the second round.

So far, I'm a big fan of the unranked nights. It gave me a chance to play with and against an almost entire TG team, something a non-SM like me rarely gets a chance to do.

Re: Announcing unranked Monday!

Heck, I had a hoot as well. Although most of the time I noticed a fightin' CO, it was when there was only one and half squads. Although, I would've liked to have known on what maps the vehicles were legal and such, but that was mostly my fault for not being on TS.

Also it was funny when we were accused of "stacking" with 5 TGers vs 4 TGers plus the others.

Re: Announcing unranked Monday!

I couldn't make it tonight, I had a test I needed to prep for. Next week though, I'll be there.
