Voice Communication
I haven't been in a squad in my week+ of playing BF2142 that has utilized voice communication. Once, just once, I heard someone accidentally speak into their mic and say something inaudible.
I decided to give a try to the Teamspeak server this evening and the only person on isn't responding. Is voice comm. in BF2142 as absent as I think it is, or am I doing something or have some sort of setting wrong? |

Re: Voice Communication
Could be something wrong on your end because I speak quite frequently with people within squads. I've been on the TS server a couple of times but I hadn't a reason to stick about. Admins can be reached ingame and I can't focus on the game if I'm speaking with the squad and people on TS.

Re: Voice Communication
I know that I tend not to speak very much into the in game voice thing cause its sorta screwed up for me. It could be that I need to change some settings for it but it seems that I cut out to people when I talk in it quite often, either that or im incomprehensible, and I use ventrillo all the time.

Re: Voice Communication
Of course, now that I've decided to double check all of my settings something has gone terribly wrong and I can get very little response out of my mic where as hours ago it was working just fine.
When I do tests I am only able to get feedback if I virtually scream into the mic, even on the weakest of thresholds and the volume is at minimum. I've messed with every possible property in my sound settings and can not solve the problem. In addition, I can't seem to be able to keep VOIP in game enabled. It seems to automatically turn itself off after I leave the Audio settings to enable it. Ahhh. Any suggestions? |

Re: Voice Communication
Ventrilo or Teamspeak is OK, not so hot for me when it comes to Battlefield since I can't reliably alt-tab out.
The built in voice works fine, and I prefer it. It is much better to only hear your squad mates, hearing the whole team turns into extraneous noise. |

Re: Voice Communication
I don't speak much myself, but I noticed when you're not on a TG squad most of the time the comms are silent, the only way to get them to talk is to talk a lot yourself and boot the uncooperative ones if you're SL.

Re: Voice Communication
I'd say a little over half the squads I'm in use voice comms; I myself don't speak much unless it's tactically related. I always find that I'm having the most fun and performing the best when I am in a squad with a vocal SL. If you find yourself in a silent squad, find a squad using comms, or create a squad and take the lead.

Re: Voice Communication
It'll all depend on what time of the day you're on the server. A lot of us are at work during the day or just simply don't play often. At night (EST), you'll find some good TG action going!

Re: Voice Communication
When I first got the TG bug I started creating "Talkorwalk" squads - if anyone didn't respond to a hail they got booted. Once you play a "round" with the guys you've collected then change up the SL position. It works, all you need is the will to organize it.
Have fun in-game guys and if you see me outside of an 8th squad, by all means invite me in and I'll talk your ears off ![]()

Re: Voice Communication
I've spent about 4 hours trying to figure out what is wrong with my mic. Can not crack this riddle.
Any advice.. keeping this in mind from before: When I do tests I am only able to get feedback if I virtually scream into the mic, even on the weakest of thresholds and the volume is at minimum. I've messed with every possible property in my sound settings and can not solve the problem. In addition, I can't seem to be able to keep VOIP in game enabled. Re: Voice Communication
Uhh.. uhmm.
I had flipped the setting on the cord to mute. This took far too many hours to figure out. I am ashamed. Now... to get VOIP working properly. UPDATE: I can properly set up and run the mic setup found in the BF2142 folder and everything works alright. I enable VOIP and join a server. I hear nothing and transmit nothing, however. I escape out to the menu and check the settings and somehow VOIP has been switched back to off. Any time I switch it back to on and leave the menu the game switches it back to off. Sometimes the test mic setting will recognize my input, other times not. This is extremely frustrating. Any advice? Last edited by Admerylous; 09-22-2007 at 05:23 PM. |

Re: Voice Communication
Sound card is onboard audio.
I've tried to update drivers for all of the codecs and various things in the system. ie. SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio drivers, Legacy Audio drivers. They all list as current. I can get the mic to work without any issues at all in TeamSpeak, Ventrilo, etc. I can even get it to work for the BF2142 Voice Setup program. Just, once in the audio options, it selects disable on VOIP by default and if I change it and leave the menu, it returns back to disabled. Frustrating..... Update: I was able to get VOIP to run for about 45 seconds just a moment ago... and then, for some reason, the game disabled it once again. Last edited by Admerylous; 09-23-2007 at 02:53 AM. |

Re: Voice Communication
Admerylous,
Check out Newegg, you can get an X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Pro card for $100 after rebate. The card simply rocks for BF2142. The X-Fi series are the only cards that will let you do 128 voices in BF2 & 2142. After hearing how good Battlefield sounds with this card you will think it is $100 well spent. I'm not sure on the rules and links for vendors, so if you want, message me or reply and I can give you the link (Newegg newsletter if you are not already a member). |

Better yet, even if you do see him in an 8th Squad, invite him. Geeze this guy doesn't shut up. It would be a welcome change if he was annoying others for once with his dribble...
