Northern Strike worth the purchase?

So now that I'm hooked on BF 2142, is Northern Strike worth the purchase?

I just read TG has a Frosty Friday, and will extend it to Thursday too, so if the server is busy that nights that helps the decision. Are there servers to play the maps on, or is it an empty expansion?

Might want to ask the folks in the BF2142 forums.

Re: Northern Strike worth the purchase?

The server fills up during prime time hours if someone takes the time to seed it. during off hours it can be difficult to seed it, but it happens often enough. this week I think the NS server was full THR night but empy friday. the server is on 32 player conquest infantry maps right now and is filling up as I type this.

Oops!

Thought I posted in 2142...

Anyways, with Northern Strike do you also get extra unlocks per level, like with BF2 & Special Forces?

yes, and the main reason for buying it. The unlock available are game changing. Motion mine bait, IDS, and extra rockets really help.

What about the maps? Is the reason the TG server does not have any Northern Strike maps due to the cost involved?

Nope, the main TG server is for vanilla conquest. There is a second server that plays NS, titan, and NS Titan maps. It's split up that way because less people have NS and mixing in NS maps into the vanilla conquest would mean booting some people off the server.

Additionally, and this is just my personal opinion, NS is worth the money only to allow for its unlocks, namely the support IDS, Assault additional ammo, and the Engineer motion mine bait and expanded clip.
The new armor is fun enough (the speeder is my second favourite vehicle in the game) but the maps themselves are far too large. It's impossible to co-ordinate a squad or move them all together on maps of that size. Granted, the scenery is pretty and the landscape does offer some fun strategic idiosyncrasies, but the actual playtime involves a lot of boring walking on foot. And this is especially true on most pubbie servers where teammates drive-off alone with a vehicle, leaving you to walk the entire expanse of the map to get to the action.

Re: Northern Strike worth the purchase?

it depends. I'd say the best money you spend is on the upgrade for your character (an extra rocket per clip, IDS, etc) rather than the extra maps that get played only occasionally. So ask yourself whether having those things is worth 10 bucks to you. For me, it certainly was/is. For others it may not be.

Re: Northern Strike worth the purchase?

You don't need to buy the booster for those upgrades...just unlock one below what you want and use the field upgrades which come quickly on the TG server.

Re: Northern Strike worth the purchase?

Yea, for me, I can't get any higher in rank, so all the new NS Upgrades are field upgrades for me. Its incentive for me to bag drive myself... and my keyboard.

Re: Northern Strike worth the purchase?

I think I have two unlock credits I need to get in northern strike still, one for the beacon, the other radar grenade. I don't see myself pushing for these quickly. On the other hand, every single one of the unlocks I've gotten has been so much for the better. The IDS is immeasurably useful, the extra rocket is fantastic, the recon decoy/extended camo are probably the dirtiest two pieces of equipment you can put together, the motion mine bait and extended smg clip more than speak for themselves, and the clark RDX is a barrel of exploding laughs waiting to happen.

/agree

Everyone is right, the unlocks are well worth the money to purchase Northern Strike. The extra PK rocket, motion mine bait, IDS are all great unlocks.

I think on TG servers, squad leaders expect you to have an IDS and Motion Mine Bait at all times. I know I do.
