Post A 40 yrs old gamer viewpoint on BF2

Hello to all the community.

I have just joined TG today.
But first let me intoduce myself.
I am 40 years old and I was always on the "tactical" side of gaming.
I play titles like Hidden and Dangerous, SWAT, Rainbow 6, Flashpoint, Silent Hunter, Splinter Cell, etc.
I also like to play BF2 online.

I found this community looking for other mature players (in terms of mind and age).
From what I have read so far in the TG site, I can probably solve a big issue I have and some serious gameplay considerations, regarding online BF2.

My problem is that I cannot enjoy BF2 (as it was mean to be played).
To make it more clear, let me point out some issues I have noticed in my 2 years on BF2.
It seems that most players on BF2 do some or all of the following:

- Not forming squads
- Run like hell
- Jumps all time
- Take and use vehicles without any others "jumping in"
- Squad members are scattered and not in the same map area or close to other squad members
- No one seems to use a tactical slow-pace approach
- Squad leaders do not give orders

All of the above make my BF2 experience a big turnoff.

Seems that the TG community is what I was looking for.
I hope I have found a place where other people like me can enjoy BF2 in a more real and tactical way.

Regards,

Rasta-GR

Hey Rasta! Welcome home!

As I'm sure you've seen, we no longer run "vanilla" BF2 here at TG. Instead we run two BF2 mods that have really revitalized the game. Point of Existence 2 is what vanilla BF2 should have been: accurate weapons and no commander scan/UAV (or artillery) to spoil stealthy flanking maneuvers. The Project Reality is quite a bit different from vanilla BF2, with considerable number of new features and game play elements. I suggest giving both a try!

Hi WhiskeySix,

From what I have read so far, TG must be the place for me.

Thanks for the information. I will download both mods.

I will do my reading regarding all TG gameplay rules / SOPs / etc.

By the way, do you offer any training?

By training I mean, if do you host some training / practice sessions on your servers?

Are any TG squads that can accept and willing to help new TG members like me?

On the forums I have read about the Irregulars.

Are these a team of trainers?

Sorry for all these questions, but I am exited in the opportunity to finaly play this game in a more tactical way.

Regards,

Rasta

Re: A 40 yrs old gamer viewpoint on BF2

Let me comment on some of your points below:
- Not forming squads: Our BF2 servers run a script that requires you to join a squad. If you don't join or create one in 90 seconds then you get kicked from the server.
- Run like hell: PR is a slower game that moves slower that vanilla BF2.
- Jumps all time: Bunny Hopping is not allowed on our servers.
- Squad members are scattered and not in the same map area or close to other squad members: Squad members are required to follow the Squad leaders orders.
- No one seems to use a tactical slow-pace approach: Once again PR is a slower game than vanilla.
- Squad leaders do not give orders: Squad leaders are required to lead the squad by the server rules.

It looks like you will enjoy the TG servers quite a bit. Like Whiskey said you should give both mods a try. Both of them are completely different and they are like getting new games.

When you join a server look for a squad led by someone with a "|TG|" tag and try to get in their squad. Let them know that you are new and don't be afraid to ask questions.

Welcome to TG!

Re: A 40 yrs old gamer viewpoint on BF2

Welcome Rasta! As you can see, you have gotten a welcome from two different admins who just happen to play different mods. WhiskeySix plays PoE, and wimpinator plays PR. I play both, and they probably have or do as well. Depending on what type of gameplay you are looking for, there is a mod for you. Don't forget to check each mod's forum under the main BF2 forum and introduce yourself!

One thing I highly recommend is to download TeamSpeak. While there is in-game VOIP, most of our members here use TS and it lets you talk with the guys (and gals) both when you're ingame and need help from that chopper squad, and when you're just chilling and want to chat. TS is not required, but it certainly doesn't hurt. Well, it hurts when you've got a couple of jabber-jaws in-channel and you can't hear your squadmates. If that happens, just yell in TS for everyone shut their piehole!

I hope to see you on a lot, and welcome to our community!

P.S. don't forget about our tags! Show your TG pride!

Welcome to the community Rasta--compared to the usual public servers, you'll think you've died and gone to a better place. I always get a kick when someone finds us who is looking for exactly what we do.

Seek the Tao of TG, Grasshopper, and the fulfillment of enlightenment on the virtual battlefield will be yours, as the wind passes through the willow, swaying the...um, bending the willow like...uh.

Damn, I have no idea where I was going with that, nevermind.

I think you'll like it here.

Rasta - your going to think you've died and gone to heaven. BF2 has had quite a history here at TG and will continue on into the future as new like-minded players such as your self find their way here.

Not only will you find a mature level of play here by both 'tagged' and 'untagged' players you can find a great mix of personalities amongst the 'In House Squads' (IHS's) made up of Supporting Members (with the exception of the venerable Irregulars). I think you'll find a comfortable spot to laydown some battlefield smackdown.

Cheers!

Re: A 40 yrs old gamer viewpoint on BF2

Rasta, I'm new here like you but can say I'm glad there is another newb here who like me prefers tactical game play.

TG offers everything I look for. I have not tried the PR TG servers yet but can be found on a POE server every night. As long as you can get used to being decimated by the guys in the 12th its great fun!

If you ever get a chance squad up with kilevvri1, Ikonic, Magunushi, project and others (sorry if i misspelled names here still getting used to em) - These guys have some very effective tactics and make GREAT squad leaders. Every game i play i seem to observe and learn new things from them.

I also run with the Killerbzs squad and when we have a CO we always do what is asked. And even without a CO we still employ effective defense and flag cap and stick to our flags.

Anyways, look forward to running with ya.

Rasta, a month from now, after about what seems like a hundred of hours of gameplay with us, and endless comments like "that is was a GREAT round!" you will look back and laugh at this post...in a good way...you are home brother, home.

I have walked in your vanilla shoes...check this out...

if you are ever on the TG PR server then i highly recommend the 6th Devil squads, like warehouses. Warehouse is an amazing SL. If you get a chance and are willing to join his squad, do it, just make sure you can keep up.
