Hey, man. You're in the UK. Don't any of you Brits take this wrong, now, but the weapons you'll face in "that" type of disaster aren't going to be ranged. If they are ranged, then it's possible that you'll quite easily be screwed even with a crossbow. Given that a crossbow is difficult to attain and a "Hand Catapult" is rather ridiculous, you should use an E-Tool.

The E-tool has never gotten a lot of glory, but it works. It's multi-purpose, you won't have to pack three more tools, and given that it doubles as an axe (it actually has an axe blade on one side of the spadehead, and a serrated blade on the other, though I'm not sure what that's for) a shovel, a weapon, a pick, a hammer, and a cooking pan, I'd say just stick with it. It's a space saver, and weighs maybe three pounds. It takes up eight inches of space, and you can beat the living bejesus out of anybody that screws with you. Dan Daly killed 97 Chinese men with it in the boxer rebellion! Granted this was after killing about 120 of them with his machine gun, but still!

I'd say to hell with the crossbow. You already complained about weight when I mentioned guns and some other stuff. Get the E-tool and go, man. You can lop somebody's head off clean, cave a skull, take off an arm, cleave through a chest, or do whatever else you want to do. And they pretty much, well, can't block it. If you try to block that little thing, you'd never be able to react in time. It's just too quick.

If you want a ranged weapon that bad, buy a blackmarket gun. Give me 1,500 bucks and I'll give you MY 1911, if you can figure out how to do it.

That really depends on what part of the UK you are in Barnes. In my part, there are bad guys with AA weaponry, .50 sniper rifles, RGPs and all sorts, still at large and using them.

Take a visit to West Philadelphia, im sure you can find plenty of .308 magnums, Ak47s, AR15s and a host of other powerful weaponry on the street for dirt cheap prices.

Re: A tangent for you all to join me on.

Stuff that I would put into a go bag:
    First aid kit
    entrenching tool
    Swiss army knife
    Antibiotics
    Tylenol
    A map
    Compass
    3 days of MREs
A pot for boiling water in
    A flint
    Water purification tablets
A fishnet for setting traps and fishing
A flare gun with multiple flares
    A whistle
A mirror you can use to signal aircraft
    A 2 way radio
    A AM/FM radio
A cell phone with built in GPS
    A blanket of some sort
    A water proof jacket
    Ziplock bags
An inflatable raft, they don't take much space and it may come in handy.
    Flashlight with spare batteries
    ID
    A water bottle
    Duct tape
If I wanted a gun I would take a Kar98,Lee enfield or mosin nagant with about 200 rounds.

Hashassin i went to Belfast the other week and they still ahd armoured police Landrovers,
Plus what about the 'real IRA'

But anyway, I suggest a trip to Decathlon, they sell hunting gear and boil in the bag meals that last forever, plus you can buy all of the hiking gear you need.

BTW Hashassin where do you live in Manchester, the only place i can think of that close to the Pennines is Rochdale which is way out of Manchester (Oldham for the win!)

I believe its a good thing they banned the use of explosives in hunting, creating to many damn craters for rabbits to hide in.

right.. i live Park Bridge to be exact so Harts head pike is 10/15 mins walk. I think id go there. Great views to surroundings and an easily defendable building/becon.

TBH if your only planning for a 2/3 day Gov response time, to a natural disaster, do you really need a specialised weapon, surely an entrenching tool is enough. all you really need is a tent, rations, clothes and a tent/poncho (to make a basha with)
