Here are some suggestions for an updated TG Mod Pack

Currently i am looking at an update to be released in the next few weeks

mainly my ideas atm are:

replacement brit weapon pack OR fix for the sound

another island- for a bit more variety

and op-for units.

there a certain things that will be included in the next mod pack

Map editor Upgrade (for got to put this in the first release )

(will update this bit as i see fit)

Just out of curiosity, but how was this mod pack selected? I'm not complaining, but alot of the TG players seemed to hate the British soldiers on the Sunday Event especially the fact that the UK weapon sounds have serious issues (gun shots from 500 meters seeming as if they are right near you). I know UK Forces has had this problem on several of their addons in ArmA 1 such as the Jackal.
Personally I think that the UK soldiers are ok (aside from the bizarre menu name on the mission editor). IT's just the weapons that make them unusable aside from weapons not realistic to them (unless they are used for SAS missions using M4's).

My recommendation is to supplement them with the BW mod pack. I would say perhaps get permission from UKF to fix their weapons (I could easily do that if I get their non-binarized pack) but I know they would give us a resounding "NO WAY IN HELL" to that suggestion most likely.
A good alternative since we have so many Canadian players is the Operation Northstar release which is a nice complete pack that includes Canadian infantry, a Canadian weapons pack, a Leopard 2 A6M tank, and a Chinook helicopter.
http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=82533

There are also a couple of good Australian SAS packs that look good as well, but they're not complete mini-packs like the Canadian one above.

If you guys stick with the UK guys and we just get used to having the sound of their weapons loud all the time (or the guy who ported the UKF weapons fixes the sound), then a lot of people are asking for the Challenger 2 tank pack to be included which is here:

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=87744

One small addon that would greatly improve things and that works in MP, is the fastrope addon that enables this for all BI aircraft to include the osprey:
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=5791

Yes I know the new MH-60 addon in the TG pack has this, but it would be nice to have this on the USMC aircraft as well.

Another possible boost to the USMC would be the LCAC which is only a 1mb file:
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7771

Finally many are requesting new OPFOR addons. There aren't very many, but there is FANTASTIC LOOKING addon that we MUST HAVE!!!! This is Gnat's Russian Kiev class aircraft carrier conversion here:
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8254

That would VERY VERY useful for Russkie missions or the opposite of our Khe Sahn mission where instead US commandos storm the Russian carrier.

For new Russian infantry (small 4mb file) there is the Russian OMON pack:
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7484

For Russian airborne operations (since the West has a C130) there is this the new AN-2 addon:
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8180

Mi-28 gunship:
http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=82127

There is also a T90/80/72 pack, but since we already have BI T72 and T90 in-game that's not a big deal.

Anyways those are just some suggestions.
Oh...I do have one more possible suggestion. I am working on porting my mod's stuff to ArmA 2. I may be able to develop a small infantry/armor/helicopter pack in short order. But I guess since we don't have any good desert or Mediterranean style maps (like the Avgani map with those lovely deserts and wheat fields), then I guess that is not a great suggestion although it would be tons of fun in MP assaulting objectives with Merkava Mk4's filled with a fireteam of 4 men in back of each with Heavy Achzarit APC's charging in back of them.

Re: Here are some suggestions for an updated TG Mod Pack

The addon selection process is not easy. We must first find mods, then test each and everyone for quality and use. Then finally put it all together upload it and release it. All of which consumes lots of time. I personally tested everything, and yes I know the L85 is not perfect and it will be replaced when a new model is a available but it does work and thats the important part. The British units were quite nice looking and we felt that they would be easily distinguishable from the Opfor (with practice of course). We are looking at updating the pack soon once we have an easier distribution method. Right now we are looking into German forces http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7956
US Army http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7165
and possibly some UN peace keepers http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6192
Were also looking at Little birds http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=5952 Since they are so useful
We are open to suggestions. However, we don't want the addon pack to take up too much space or includes unneeded addons. We chose not to include the Challenger 2s before because few missions actually include tanks therefore we don't want to waste space on something that will rarely be used. Remember the addon needs to be practical, something that would be used often.

Re: Here are some suggestions for an updated TG Mod Pack

Actually it seems to me that the sound issue with the L85 (haven't looked, but from the kind of error to judge) is because the sound is in stereo. All sounds in ArmA must be mono sounds or the engine can't use them properly. For example distance fade doesn't work at all with stereo sound.

Could always try to (if possible and if it isn't already) convert the sound file to a mono one.

Also i know it might seem a bit much but on joint mission like that where we havent seen the UK forces before can we start together so the guys can see what they look like sort of a "ahhhh....dont shoot these guys" period?

I know that it makes it MUCH easier to navigate and find direction.
Do NOT include stuff that isn't needed by the missions. I'm sure it's been said before already that they won't, but there's no point in putting stuff into the addon that will bloat the download size just because some people MIGHT want to use it. If a person wants addons like this (or sound addons or LandTex or whatever) then it's their own responsibility to get it

I try to play with the bare minimum of addons, I dont understand the need for the TG pack to play on the servers, especially some of the stuff that's in it. I thought addons just screw up the servers. I do understand the need to use Ace 2 when it comes out. What the hell do i know.

Re: Official TG MOD PACK Request Thread

I haven't tried the Avgani map as last I checked it required a ton of crazy stuff to work, however if the latest version of the ArmA2 conversion works, it is a MUST HAVE for TG as some of the best and most memorable TG missions in ArmA1 were done using the Avgani map. There is simply nothing else like it when it comes to superb Middle Eastern combat and unmatched urban areas that feel so real, you expect a donkey or a camel to come wandering by and can almost smell the flinty scent of the desert sands. There are also wonderful wheat fields that are superb for ambushes and many enterable buildings for CQB madness and epic TVT battles!

OH to Chief. If the addons are well constructed, they shouldn't lag anything anymore then any BI made addon. Only poorly made addons will cause lag (like not enough LOD's in the .p3d model and shoddy scripting).

If we are going to keep a modpack would like to see the Bundeswehr forces added as it would complement a Cold War scenario nicely as well as add a 4x4 and an APC. Also little birds and UN peacekeepers would be nice. And I also like the Canadian forces add-on. I think these 4 should give us plenty of variety and flexibility. In addition I would like to see possibly some more of the ace island maps like Everon.

(ok I looked into the other islands looks like not may of those maps are out yet but this Namalsk island certainly looks amazing with the snow, http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7781 )

I agree with Chief I think that having a few extra units weapons and islands is fine as long as they are signed with the sever however one of the MAJOR CONTRIBUTORS TO LAG is all the other addons that people join with. I think that we should start making it a policy of only allowing addons that we are willing to adopt as a whole community and banning the rest. All the custom faces, sounds etc just cause lag and eat sever performance something we can't afford when we routinely have 30+ players on the server.
