    Friday 25th into 26th July!

    Another very good night's gaming.

A few TVT missions and a few COop missions mainly led by Grunt and Beta and all went very nicely!

However............ holy cow did we take it to a new level thereafter. Whilst many left, we switched the map back to Domination Mando West and set the time to match our own location, i.e, Midnight (average). The server was set to veteran mode and Beta suggested a few changes.

JESUS!!!!!!! Did these make it tough, but hugely enjoyable and quite the challenge! Firstly weapons; no one could carry two rifles and those with AT could only carry one AT round! No one was to para insert, instead we took the UH60 and landed at a safe LZ and tabbed in to the mission area.

Now the killer................ It was a dark starry night, but will all agreed NOT to use NVG's! Now with the setting Moon, this was ok, but when we were attacking the side mission island of Antigua the moon had disappeared! Having inserted by Boat.... we arrived on the island to find the airfield had no lights whatsoever, none of the vehicles had lights on, yet there was clearly armour and infantry there and we could not see a damn thing. I kid you not, you could only see someone if they went above the horizon and we tracked each other by voice in direct chat (another ban of side channel coms) and without doubt it was one of the hardest rounds I have played.

We then continued to another side mission at Tandag and same thing again, you cannot see fences, tree's nothing....only voices, a compass and a map kept you on course!

It was very enjoyable, but by the end people were flagging (late night) and the sun started to rise making it possible to navigate much easier, so many headed to bed.

But it just showed me, that no matter how many times you play this game, there is always a new way to add a new element to it!

Blackdog, I really enjoyed being on the Field of Arma with such a professional operating crew as you fellas at TG. Sorry for not being able to finish the missions or leaving right in the middle of an operation, but, I will be on as often as time allows for me. I will also do as the team needs for being able to participate is enough for me.

Ah, it was an interesting night.

What with the drunken helo flying and the complete and utter lack of visibility, it made for some interesting gaming.

My tip of the week for night missions (sans NVGs of course) is: Flares. Brings lots .. when you think you have enough, bring 10 more. We must have went through 30 flares over the course of the engagement near Tandag ... I know I launched 16 myself .. heck I didn't do anything BUT launch flares.

Night without NVGs is a whole new experience, honestly, I do NOT recommend it for a opener, you have to have patient and competent people with you. You really do have to stay within 10 meters of your leader ... any further and you can't hear them, you can't simply use your radio as you will still have no idea where they are .. "uh .. by the black thingy here".

The directional/distance aspects of Direct Channel are invaluable for night ops, I STRONGLY suggest that you sort out your audio options so that you can clearly understand and hear Direct comms at a distance of 20m in open ground.

I think I am going to start to run in "hardcore" mode for any future domination sessions. No NVGs, no player markers, no paradropping or teleporting, no multiple M136 rounds (hell, you shoot the rocket, you drop the launcher even), and no use of enemy offensive vehicles.

It will make it more difficult .. but the challenge will bring new and interesting situations that you simply can't get from the current gameplay.

Anyone interesting can follow along ... if you want to play by the rules that is

Damn ill never forget that side mission on that island... I couldnt see a damn thing but the stars! Had to wait like 40 mins till the rest of the team could land on the island, but when they get there, the fun started. First the short walk to our last waypoint. Yeah, short... try to move a squad together 1000m relaying only on voices from direct comms. Not an easy task, for sure. Then, shorts moments of pure adrenaline while the flares were falling from the sky, and AT guys took out most of the tanks. Then the assault. All this with limited flares, using the flames from dead tanks as guide. Unforgettable. I bet there is no coop mission out there that can match the challenge and the immersion I felt in that simple side mission.

Anyway, these rules are becoming quite standard for me. I just cant use these NVGs anymore... they're lame! And guess what, the casualties dropped to minimal or none.

Too bad I have to leave you guys for a week or two. Gotta work. Pilot life maybe exciting, but sucks sometimes.

I had to check out just before that. We had some fun palying some small TvT missions.

I would sign up for the described mission limitations in the future i.e. no para, limited weapons, no enemy vehicles etc. It may be a little far fetched for a town assualt in Dom but hey, I already know we can take down a town with more firepower so why not!
