Also, I didn't attend so I don't know if there ever was any call for a "staggered wedge". I have never ever heard about such a formation, but I would assume it is a squad/platoon/company formation and if it exists would look something like this:

I didn't find anything on google or skimming through military manuals, so this is my best guess ^^
Since the formation seems useless to me (no real advantage of any form at all aside from if leaving the rightmost fireteam to hold position and guard while the others proceed through in a wedge column) I assume there was a mixup of squad and platoon marching formation, possibly because of cluttered or breaking comms.

Yes the formation I was looking for in the beginning is what I have heard called a platoon staggered column but the real name is apparently a column of wedges. The idea is to have every squad in wedge behind one another, it is a good formation for crossing open ground when faced with superior forces. Keeps everyone together while still allowing flexibility, fields of fire and good command and control.

When crossing that big open field we should have been hauling a*s, not worring if our lines looked nice and streight, morters and arty dont give a sh*t about wedges, staggered wedges or if we are doing Texas two step. This aint playing green army men on your bedroom floor where ya go boom!! and throw them all over the room... or maybe it was.

Here are some screens that I took in-game. Most were taken from the night portion of the mission so think of it as a game of guessing how many players are actually on screen in each shot.

Lol one day shot, good luck with the others. Maybe next time I'll think of taking screens during the times our position was lit up by illums.

Uh your quite right Chief the formation bit was when we were moving through the fields to our step off point, where our biggest danger was running into enemy patrols or coming into direct contact with enemy forces.

I also 100% agree with you that when you are assaulting an enemy position you should be moving as fast as humanly possible under a good base of fire with as much support as you can bring down on the enemy. Personally I was with 2nd squad during the first assault and we did manage to breach defenses along the dirt road (the enemy positions were in defliade here and had very limited engagement ranges so we were able to get right on top of them and kill them). We then hit the deck along the crest of the hill to provide cover for the other assaulting section but that never materialized and we spend to long in the open <BIG MISTAKE (my bad) and everyone knows the end of that.

Again I appreciate the feedback. I really do feel bad about the amount of casualties we took in my definition of a perfectly executed mission we should take 0 casualties every time. I really have absolutely no intention of matching people across a field into enemy fire in an exercise reminiscent of 18th century warfare because as you said absolutely nothing good will come from that in modern warfare. Like I've said before at least in my book this was by far one of the worst leadership jobs I've ever done, guess you live and learn.

Even perfectly executed missions won't have 0 casualties unless they are:
    1) Extremely lucky for the players
    2) Badly designed and a bore

15% casualties or less seem like a really fine number though, and includes some room for the enemy actually getting a few lucky shots
