Opinion Topic - Aircraft Loadout Script

    Hey Everyone,

Back again for more of your thoughts! Marine today enlightened me of a great idea. How about a script which displays a menu which you can pick a button and change the loadout of your aircraft when your on the tarmac and near a rearming point or vehicle?

So, what loadouts on the planes do you think should be the options? Note, it is possible to script weapons or additional ammo onto planes even if it is not visually represented on the outside.

Let me know what you would like to see..

On the simpler and more obvious side: How about more bombs and rockets in place of AA and AG missiles, which are pretty silly in ARMA. Moreover, what about paraflares or something like a M47 smoke bomb, just another way to assist ground forces (probably smoke artillery rounds and regular paraflares could work here?).

On the more robust side, it would be cool to be able to attach something like a LATRIN pod to airplanes to improve CAS support, for instance have a telescoping lens like the observer has on the UH-1 or even better the MQ-1 UAV pilot but for fixed wing pilots to recon with. They could switch to this weapon, losing control of the plane in favor of a birdseye view of the battle field.

Technically, the F35B should have access to its 4+2 hardpoints system. Although it significantly reduces the stealth qualities of the aircraft, the F35B could carry an additional four LGB or dumb bombs and two additional Sidewinder missiles. Unfortunately, I doubt it is possible to visually display these hardpoints, and since the F35B does not appear to be any more stealthy than conventional aircraft there is no reason NOT to load the hardpoints.

The AV-8B has 5+2 hardpoints and can accept virtually any payload, including Mavericks, LGBs, dumb-drop bombs, and Sidewinders.

My preferred option? Map the hardpoints for each aircraft realistically and allow pilots to customize EACH hardpoint on an aircraft. For instance:

I'm flying a Harrier. On the tarmac, I use my Action Menu to select "Hardpoint 1" and choose a Maverick. I repeat this process for 3 other hardpoints, then make the rest Sidewinders. Boom, customized jet.

    Can be done:
Set up a UAV for use like you'd normally do, but use a laptop instead of a UAV-terminal(works for sure, any static-object should), or you could even try to use the host aircraft as the UAV-terminal(untested) You'll also probably want to remove all weapons from the UAV. attachTo the UAV where you'd like the recon-pod to be on the "host" aircraft, and attachTo the laptop to the host-aircraft so that the pilot gets the "UAV"-action. Put deleteCollection this to the UAV and laptop's init-line to make them invisible.

edit: Well so much for the idea... The pilot of the host aircraft does not see the UAV-action no matter what, but it works if the UAV-operator is outside the aircraft. A good attachTo-pos for the UAV in an A10 would be about [0.65,2,1.5]. The good news is that you can use an A10 as a UAV-terminal should you want to

i like the idea of customisable loadouts, it would allow more versitile missions with air assets, ie the F35b could actualy be air support for the A-10.

i would love to see missions were the F35 has to escort other aircraft and there is a real threat from enime aircraft

I agree with scope on this one. I'd like to see it as a menu that allows you to choose the munition for EACH hardpoint the aircraft has. A jet like the A-10 would have 11 hardpoints to mount different munitions on, while the Harrier would only have 7.

Would be cool if the loadout affected fuel consumption/speed as well.

Damnit Blizzard, fix ZvT already >.<
In Soviet Russian, Arma admins are nice to you!

When we will be doing modpack, definitely this F-16 from Footmuch needs to be added.
There is everything what you guys are talking about, just download it and check. Paraflares and anti-missile flares, afterburner, couple versions of loadout (CAS, Air-to-Air, Air-Ground, Combined). One of best plane addons I have ever seen.

It would be sweet if you could add a nice interface to it.

I actually already have that F-16, and yeah, it is very good quality. It comes with everything you say, only that's not what we're talking about here.

We're talking about an actual script that will allow you to change your loadout MID-GAME. The F-16 in the link has premade loadouts only. (Though in its page on armaholic it does say something about a loadout script in the making, we'll see).

What about something like something like a Ground Imagery Exploitation System, which provides real time footage to front line commanders. That Russian UAV could be attached to the plane and the commander could access a Birdseye view of the battle field from a mobile command post.
