Discussion: ArmA - Development / ArmA - Mission Development - ArmA 2 map editor help - After a few hours of playing around on the editor Ivhave found some difficulty trying
After a few hours of playing around on the editor Ivhave found some difficulty trying to figure out some of the things this editor is capable of doing.I have a few questions so ill list them out.
1.when I try to put a location in under the game logic tab it just puts a big ? on the map and I have no idea what it looks like or how big it is.
2. besides using way points is there any way to have groups patrol or at least move around?
3. When I try putting more then two Air units close together (at an airstrip) the units spawn at least 500 meters away from where i placed them and end up in a tree and explode even if i have 100% probability on.
4. Is there some kind of guide that I can use that will tell me how to actually make a map with detailed information on what each button does on the editor? I keep trying to make a base of USMC and ends up looking like a scattered piece of crap.
Hey man, not being sarcastic or condescending (because i am learning the map editor too) but if you google "arma 2 map tutorial" youll get alot of help.
I keep having the problem of when i put in an aircraft with the player as the craft i cant take off. Only put the flaps down, or get out.
. now as for your question on aircraft spawning in the wrong place, i think you will find that the 2 units are grouped together. All you need to do is select the group module (F2) and hover your mouse over one of the planes. then click and move your mouse away from the other plane, this will remove the grouping between them. Allowing them to spawn were you place them.
waypoints are the only reall way of controlling were units move however there are scripts that allow for random placings and random patrol patterns
Also a 'location' isn't anything physical or visible. It's an abstract mechanic that is meant to be used in conjunctoin with the Secondary Ops Module, Ambient Combat Module and Ambient Civilians modules, to mention the most important ones. It simply tells the other modules what kind of area it is, so that they know how to treat it.
The whole map is already filled with location data, but if one wants things to be a bit different it is a useful (albeit airly complex to start with) thing.
It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
It has been almost 6 months now and I am still waiting for the second peer-review report to come in for my next book (this one is on the future of television).
