What settings should I use?
Well with my new video card I'm confused as to what I should use for Arma
AMD Athlon 64 2.2 ghz
3072 RAM
BFG Geforce 9800 GTX 512mb
Windows XP Home

Re: What settings should I use?
Set as high as possible until FPS is unacceptable for you.
View distance is valuable so try to keep that at least 1500. Anti-aliasing is taxing but you could probably set it to 2x. Post-processing is another performance factor so fiddle with that for good FPS.
It's really hard to say the exact settings you should use. It's up to you to experiment. It's not that hard to set everything to high and lower settings until it's acceptable. Or set everything to medium and raise settings.

Re: What settings should I use?
Try using fraps mate, gives an option to put a small counter in the top corner!

Re: What settings should I use?
I have to agree with Sarc.
I find that 2x AA is a big hit depending on the card. For me ArmA is one of those games that really needs it but have tried running with 2xAA on a lower card and the fps hit was just to much in certain areas.
Shadows is another one that can be a bit of a hog.
Be carefull though with assuming all other attributes are better at lower setting. People will routinely put a setting from normal to high and see a FPS increase. It has to do with the fact that some higher settings use newer techniques or rendering processes which are more effecient.
I have found the mission where you start as a SF soldier, next to a Toyota truck on the edge of the forest (objective is to ambush a convoy) is a great stress tester. I run up into the tall pine trees where to road is and much around in there. It is a really big FPS killer in there and easy to repeat test quickly.
