Re: New Pc For Arma + Arma2
Indeed, Jorge. I believe it just doesn't handle hardware efficiently. 50% of RAM being used when idle is unnecessary. Also, my HDD is making a lot of noise as we speak

Re: New Pc For Arma + Arma2
I agree with the vista bit..I hear people bitch and moan about Vista and I will admit when I first got it It ran slow as hell but after doing a little tweaking it ran alot smoother and more stable than my old XP install did
The one reason I might get windows 7 is to get a 64 bit version so i can use 8gig of ram

Re: New Pc For Arma + Arma2
Actually, Vista uses memory very differently than XP, and it is much better. It keeps your commonly used apps ready to launch, so when you click the icon it launches much quicker. If I bought a lot of memory, why would I want it sitting around not being used except when I game. That would be a waste. I want it making my computer faster ALL the time.
And Vista is very good at letting go of that memory when it is needed by something else, like a game. XP on the other hand has problems with that, which is why there are so many XP apps that people use to free up memory, like FreeXP. http://www.yourwaresolutions.com/software.html

Re: New Pc For Arma + Arma2
So, what you're saying is that 50% of my RAM just took up and left without reason? Or, it's my own actions that provoked it... Most likely the latter.

Re: New Pc For Arma + Arma2
No Charles Darwin, Bamboo is right, windows Vista as a feature called superfetch that makes a list of your usual programs and allows you to start them very quickly, by using your ram. You can turn it off, if you want, check the link I posted on this thread.
I installed Vista about 3 weeks ago, the business version that I have access for free, and I really don't like that much. Vista is supposed to handle dual cores and quad cores much more efficiently, but I only see a decrease in performance comparing to XP.... and I can't play IL2 in vista...

Re: New Pc For Arma + Arma2
Jorge, there's a method to get it installed, or have you already got it installed?

Re: New Pc For Arma + Arma2
I was able to install it, but I can't launch it... I tried in compatibility mode, all permissions given and I'm able enter the game but it just goes back to the desktop at 5% of the loading... none of the methods that I found worked for me yet.

Re: New Pc For Arma + Arma2
Ah...The 5% problem is usually the result of failed patching or modding attempt. Reinstalling and making sure you're applying the correct patches in the correct order should fix that.

Thanks Fincuan. I forgot to install the dam 4.08m patch, before the 4.09 beta....

Re: New Pc For Arma + Arma2
Ahh, I remember that... There are different patches for the different methods (GOTY edition, seperate games, single pack etc.) I installed the wrong one and it was screwed.
I'd say that is the main issue. Cheers, Fincuan.

Re: New Pc For Arma + Arma2
Good thing you got it working
I too remember the days of IL2+FB+AEP+PF, but thankfully those days are gone now. There's just one install(IL-2 1946, which is version 4.07m of the game) that contains ALL the previous releases. There's currently just two official patches for it: 4.08m and 4.09b1m(beta version of the yet unreleased 4.09 patch).

Re: New Pc For Arma + Arma2
I got IL-2 1946 aswell, all-in-one. I was well chuffed to find it was only €14.99! Great deal, but didn't get to play it because of the patch issue, and I havn't found the time. But I've seen some videos, and it looks amazing.
Anyway, we should really get back on topic
