In my opinion the first rig, the only differences appear to be the processor and GPU.

The first one is definatly worth 17 more £'s, even though the 2nd one has a better processor there is hardly any difference in the two, whereas there is a nice little jump from the GTX 260 to the GTX 285.

    just my 2 cents

Actually, I would probably say neither. I would suggest you build the computer yourself, which would knock about 25% of the price off that, and would probably be better. For instance, I can't believe they are only offering 2 gigs of RAM. That costs about $15-20 these days. And still installing XP. ARMA runs perfect on Vista 64, and you will be able to take advantage of 4+ gigs of RAM.

They also don't tell you what version of the 260 gfx. card that is. Is it the 55nm die version (it was recently released and has been shown to be about as fast as a 280 in a lot of games, and is here in the states for about $230).

The motherboard they are offering has not gotten a lot of good feedback in forums. Lots of people having problems with nvidia chipsets these days.

Point is, it is really easy to build your own rig with parts that you know you are getting. If you need help, we have a very good tech community here at TG with tons of guys that are happy to help. I have even talked to people on the phone before to help them out.

    ^^ What he said.

Trust this guy. He helped me build a kickass rig for about 800$. He knows what he's talking about.

160gb hardrive is ok but you will run out of room fast, I suggest a velocity raptor drive for your games and a 500gb drive for everything else.

From a price stand point I think I would rather go with the newer 32MB Cache drive Caviar Blacks or RE3's over a V Raptor for a game drive. Give me a 32MB cache RE3 and I am happy (only 16MB ATM). My build is actually the other way around; V raptors for primary OS and 250 for games and another 250 for programs.

I agree with Bamboo.....build it yourself. I think My build came to ~$550. I build it to give me time till the price drops on the x58 and i7s a bit. I can run Crysis on high maintaining ~40FPS with a custom setting tune. ArmA, CoD4, FO3, BF2142, BF2 I just max out and play.

    Intel Dual core E8400 OC'd
CM CPU Cooler - already had
    Asus Rampage Formula
    EVGA 9800GTX+ 55nm board
    BFG PS - already had
    4GB GSkill 8500CL5D Kit
    Vista SP1 32bit
Antec 900 v1 case - already had ($99 on NewEgg right now)

I can add prices to the list if you want, just need to find receipts

Re: New Pc For Arma + Arma2

    hey guys.
Just got a new pc and just wanted to see what you guys think. My old pc just wasnt cutting it anymore so i decided it was time for an upgrade. I immediatly found out how neglected i was after getting rid of my dell dimmension 2400. LOL
    So here goes.
    HP Elite m9402f
AMD Phenom 9650 Quad Core 2.30 ghz
    7GB DDR2-800MHz dual channel ram
vista 64 bit service pack 1
upgraded gpu nividia 9800gtx+ 512 ram
    Bluray/dvd burner
    upgraded 650 watt power supply
    750GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
it has the onboard 5.1 channel sound card. Not sure what it is.
    logitech x540 5.1 speakers
hannspree 28" widescreen lcd 1080i tv
    saitek eclipse keyboard w/mouse

The reason i ask is im a genius when it comes to cp's.
Also, how do you think this will hold up with arma2, and ofp2. This computer runs crysis really good and my arma experience increased 100 fold. Im currently running arma at 1900x1080x32 hooked up via hdmi.
I only wish i had known about the nividia 9800gtx2 before i got the 9800gtx+.
If you guys have any recommendations on any upgrades id appreciate that as well especially for the gpu.Should i stick with what i bought or sell it and get a better one.
I also cant seem to get the voice over the net working. My mic works with teamspeak but not with arma. Do i have to enable something. I dont have any eax hardware enabled either.
Thanks and i hope to get some feedback soon.

P.S. I have to say that the tg servers are the best ive played in my 8 years experience with OFP. I have never come across a gaming community like this and would like to thank those who put in all this hard work to keep a community like this thriving.

It looks pretty good, but no one knows how things will run with ARMA2. Only way to find out is play it, but you should be fine. Just so we know, how much did you pay for that HP? And I'm confused why you have 7 gigs of RAM. Just plain odd.

Only thing BIS has said it is being designed for DX 8 (whut!?) and for XP, they also say it might not be completely compatible with Vista, as many of the players run XP. I'm afraid that sound like a very risky decision, I hope they've changed their minds.

I have a list made up too, I altered some things thanks to Bamboo's suggestions:
    Case - Gigabyte Triton 180: 59.24
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=336277

    DVD - LG DVD±RW Blu-Ray/HD-DVD: 109.45
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=347330

    GPU - GTX 260 Core16: 279.00
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=400747

    HDD - Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB SATA2: 92.00
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=343055

    Motherboard - Asus P5Q P45 775 DDR2: 130.50
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=352394

    Memory - Corsair Dominator 4GB 8500: 90.00
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=360396

    PSU - AXP 630W ATX SLI: 50.20
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=337116

    CPU - Intel Q9550 2.83GHz 775 1333MHz 12MB: 259.00
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=344757

    Sound Card - Creative X-FI Gamer: 89.00
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=335481

    Grand Total = €1158.39

No OS included, as I'll have to see what happens with them in the near future. I may lower the price, as It may be a little too much than required. Then again, the parts are much cheaper in the US, explaining the price difference.

$220 on gpu (this is the biggest card i ever seen)
and $120 on the power supply

In an interview, mind you, it was a few months ago, so it may have changed, but I'm not too surprised of BIS making a decision like this. Don't know why...

I suppose that what you heard, is that it wont take advantage of 64 bit systems, much like 99% of todays games. It will be completable with Vista, just like Arma.

Actually, ARMA1 takes advantage of 64 systems, and in fact installs in the 64bit program files folder (I'm on Vista64).

They even had an article on their blog about it:
