OK...crashed out again. I'll be downgrading to the Catalyst 6.7 drivers here shortly.

4 out of 5 times it crashed when I was transitioning to/from the map. Something's going on there.

Good call ST!NG. That was my intention this morning. In fact, I just pulled your old instructions out to make a start.

Catalyst 7.4 is out. No mention of a memory handle fix for Armed Assault, but at least one person on the BI forums seems to think its better.

From BI Forum Topic: ATI 7.4 is out!

Still leaking... BUT it seesm to be leaking slower now!?!

Test scenerio: 5 mins flying around Rahmadi in a AH-6 no shots fired, starting at the default editor time and date.

    6.7 - ~305-400 handles after 5 mins
    7.3 - ~12000 handles after 5 mins
    7.4 - ~4900 handles after 5 mins
Since this is the most prevalent bug for some folks, this is probably a likely cause for the CTDs after 30 minutes of game time.

I'd agree with that Houdini, me hearty.

I have just downloaded the 7.4's to give them a go. How did you get on with the 6.7's?

I still crashed using them, but not quite so often. I spent the extra time in-game relearning everything! I've stopped playing the Campaign until the game is stable enough to play. MP doesn't get a look in because of how unreliable I would be in game.

Loaded the 7.4's on this morning.

Have been playing the 1.5 version only (not the Beta). Running in Windowed mode (so I can have TS Display running).

TB, TS, TS Disp, Nostromo, Saitek (for pro-flight pedals), Foxy (for Cougar) all running (all day) - SP only not MP.

Played the game to death (at least 9 hours) not crashed once! Give it a go H, and see how you get on.

Sweet Buccaneer! I never had a chance to try the 6.7's since I've been unbelievably busy lately.

Just loaded the 7.4's and will give them a try today. Thanks for the head's up!

I hope you have noticed an improvement H?

I have also played the Beta without crashes. For me at least, I can head back in to Multiplay (especially the Evolution Mission I have read a lot about, but not experienced yet)!

My shift ends at 7am tomorrow. So for the next 4 days I hope to be on TS and in the Server join in if you are about.

Unfortunately, I'm still crashing out on the Evolution Server. I played for about an hour on regular coop without any incident, so I'm wondering if it has something to do with Evolution.

I still haven't tried the 6.7's...I guess I'll go through the whole uninstall/clean/reinstall business tomorrow.

After watching some Armed Assault video's on youTube, I've decided its time to build a new system anyway. This baby's at the end of her life! LOL!

I've just recently started the CTD thing after EVO 1.40... I was VERY clean on the other versions.. Not sure what the deal is...

I had similar issues the other night crashing out on Evolution a bit (hour or so) into the game. I normally never crash with ArmA anymore. I did not pay it any attention, but if others are having issues with Evolution, we can take a look at it.

I think the CTDs are documented in the author's posts from others. I would definitely consider these specific mission caused crashes. Are we running 1.4d? That revision supposedly fixed many client CTD issues.

Kiljoy is working on a new revision that has more bug fixes and features.

Re: Need help: CTD or complete reboot about an hour into gameplay

Well after a complete uninstall and Catalyst cleaning, I reverted back to Catalyst 6.7. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be compatible with my x1650. The adapter isn't recognized by my computer at all.

With that, I just reinstalled the 7.4 Catalyst drivers and will deal with it until the new drivers are submitted. BTW, the ATI crew are aware of the problem and have submitted a problem report on the ATI website.

BI Forum Topic: Armed Assault Handle Leak

Since I've been wringing the life out of this computer for about 3 years now, I decided its time to start a new computer build. Hopefully, it'll be good enough to handle ArmA...LOL!

(and no...I'm not building a new computer just so I can play Armed Assault...or am I?)

    On the way:
    E6700 C2D
    EVGA 8800GTS
A case with about 8 fans on it
2 ZALMAN CNPS7700-CU 120mm CPU Fans (I'm going to add one to this computer as well)
new Asus MB, yada, yada, yada....you know the drill.

Hopefully, in about a week or 2...I'll be able to join in *with confidence*

Re: Need help: CTD or complete reboot about an hour into gameplay

I think I've found the culprit! The fix I've implemented has allowed me to play online (regular coop and the evolution mission) without any CTDs for the past couple of days.

Unfortunately, I changed a couple of settings...so I'm not able to fix the exact cause. Things are so stable, however, that I'm hesitant to isolate the problem by reverting my changes.

    Two changes:

    1) I was running two sound cards: onboard sound for Teamspeak, and a Soundblaster Audigy 4 for game sound. I like to isolate my Teamspeak comms to a "mini headset" so I can hear voice over the game sound. This has worked for every game I've played thus far...even OFP and Armed Assault beta. As a test, I disabled onboard sound in BIOS and rerouted my mic setup to the Audigy.

    3) Disabled sound hardware acceleration in game.

Now, I'll test the acceleration setting when I get a chance next...but perhaps these "fixes" will speak to someone with a similar setup.

Hardware acceleration ON has caused many problems for me in the past with this game. I would update your openAL drivers if I were you. That fixed some of my issues in the past.

I've long since turned it off for this game though and it runs much better.

Thanks for the input BHack. My OpenAL drivers were up to date, the last I checked. I'll re-install them again just to be sure.

I'm tempted to re-enable the on-board sound and just keep hardware acceleration unchecked in the game. Should I tempt fate just to have teamspeak audio on a separate mic setup? LOL! I NEED distinct audio!
