You can always try a set of Omega Drivers. Though he mainly does ATI drivers, he occasionaly releases a www.driverheaven.net

it's not due to Nvidia drivers, something changed between 1.05 and 1.06 that caused the 8800 issues

I have the same graphics card as you, but I had the UK (1.05 version)
which was actually pretty stable.

I installed the 1.07 beta and it was unplayable. I didn't notice any memory leak, 10-15 min in, but then again it didn't seem stable enough to last that long. The worst thing was the LOD and visual graphics problems. That's why it was unplayable for me.

So then I downloaded the 1.07 beta hotfix. While it's still unstable, it is actually playable now. I can stay on for hours without having any real problems (except for glitches in the menues and the map). Framerate stays at a steady 30fps.

If the 1.06 version was a bad as you say it was, then you might as well download the beta and I highly recommend the hotfix for 8800 users. You won't need it to install (or avoid installing) the hotfix in order to play on a multiplayer server running 1.07, but it DOES resolve alot of the issues on the 8800.

Don't forget, the beta installs to a mod folder, so if you want to go back to 1.06 for any reason, just use your normal shortcut.

What have you got to lose?

[EDIT] I just read your other thread that mentions you downloaded your version from the Atari site. In that case I would not recommend using the hotfix as I have heard it doesn't work with the download version. I may have heard wrong, so do some research. I still recommend downloading the regular beta.
