about countermeasures
And about countermeasures:
There are fixes to this. One is mando Missles. The other is to by script slow the missles down and make them less accurate. I can only remember the horrific out cry this issue had in BF2, but this community never really made a stink to BIS. My only hope is that ARMA2 has changed this REALLY UNREALISTIC issue. But I doubt it. until OFP2 comes out , We'll just have to make sure the Ground guys clear the AA out.

Re: Please know how to fly the Cobra .........
IF CM are in game ejecting from Cobras and others would be removed as jumping from a helo while it is still moving is like jumping into a blender i would think...apart from the Ka-50, helos dont have ejection seats i think.

Re: Please know how to fly the Cobra .........
Correct, the Ka-50/Ka-52 Hokum-A/B are the only rotary wing aircraft that I know of with ejection seats. The Ka-50 Hokum-A has a single pilot and one ejection seat, the Ka-52 Hokum-B has a pilot and co-pilot, an so has two ejection seats. The rotors are equipped with an explosive charge that will detach the rotors before launching the seats.

Re: Please know how to fly the Cobra .........
Chopper damage is kinda off to for example: was playing around with the cobra offline and got shot fade to black with the war quote I watched the Cobra slam into the ground nose first and not explode.

Re: Please know how to fly the Cobra .........
A full military 9-line brief is absolute overkill for ArmA, even moreso when dealing with a public server. I would be amazed to see a pubbie player even respond to this, and the amount of energy expended in doing a full 9-line is going to be largely wasted in the context of ArmA.
I would recommend reading the FAC/CAS section of the TTP for examples of how things like 9-line briefs can be slimmed down into a form that is easy to use and relevant to the game.

Re: Please know how to fly the Cobra .........
Actually, when you look at the majority of real life aircraft crashes, they generally don't explode. Sure, a large passenger or cargo jet with a lot of fuel on board will, but most of the explosions come from the movies where they have to blow up a lot of gasoline to get the spectacular explosions and fireball. Think about all the news footage you have seen about helo and small aircraft crashes. Most of these type of crashes kill on impact, since they rarely seem to explode.

Re: Please know how to fly the Cobra .........
I will admit that I am not an effective combat pilot. My role is primarily preferential towards logistics and support such as transporting equipment and personnel. One thing that did irk me the most regarding the aircraft is the absolute lack of countermeasures. I know there's an addon that corrects this, and I am thankful for that. The only gripe is that most ArmA missions for Multiplayer do not use mando missiles.

Re: Please know how to fly the Cobra .........
Yeah, I don't think I have ever crashed and been wounded. I crash a lot in singleplayer, and no I don't fly on multi unless it's Evo and I'm bored or desperate, lol. I was either fine and just broke the windscreen or dead. It would make for some interesting on-the-fly downed pilot scenarios, lol.

Re: Please know how to fly the Cobra .........
Agreed, I would suggest a 4 line, Quick, easy and to the point. But some of the info is really important, like Target description, Run in heading, Location of friendlies, and remarks. Honestly when practiced even in real life I can recieve a 9 line in a few seconds. A shortened ArmA 4 line, would be even faster.
After reading that link it seems you and I are on the "same page" and I recommend it to anyone interested in calling in CAS as well as all the Cat herders out there.

Re: Please know how to fly the Cobra .........
This is something we are going to attempt in ACE. The advanced wounding system should make it really cool to do CSAR-type missions with CSAR Medics and such.
To be fair to BIS, they did improve helicopter crash survivability somewhere in the 1.09/1.11 timeframe. We will see if we can take it a bit further.

Re: Please know how to fly the Cobra .........
also not sure how realistic it is but when you lose the tail rotor you can still recover and get it stable enough to land if you come down fast before it starts spinning again.

Re: Please know how to fly the Cobra .........
Actually i did crash and survive today playing Evo. I was in a cobra and had a bot as my gunner at the time.. a Su32 came outta no where and killed my engines, I probably "glided" 150m and got my speed around to 40-70 when i kinda hit the top of a rock in a canyon (SW of Cayo, iunno what city called) I got out, was injured, bot was fine, could still run and walk but chopper was completely dead, no fire, just broken cockpit windows. Had a guy pick me up in the LB and he took me back to base to be gunner.

Re: Please know how to fly the Cobra .........
Crashes are survivable if the pilot can crash land the chopper. I've crash landed a few times where I have survived the impact but I am injured (from only able to crawl to minor injuries). Of course the pilot has to be able to make a survivable landing which doesn't really happen a lot in arma and I can think of 2 reasons. 1) is that the aircraft is usually low and fast and so it slams into the ground and blows up and 2) is that there is no warning of the engine going out. By the time the pilot hears the rotors starting to slow it's already too late. An engine out warning would probably save a lot of lives in arma.
