Re: An alternative to Vet mode
Sorry to sound impatient, but how long is it going to take for this bigger change to happen?
To be honest, I'm getting kinda tired of playing TvT in the Arma Vanilla cadet mode.

Re: An alternative to Vet mode
When we have tested, discussed and made sure the server is not going to crash every 5 minutes!

Re: An alternative to Vet mode
But changing the difficulty settings won't make the server crash every 5 minutes.

Re: An alternative to Vet mode
The difficulty can be changed to what u want. For instance you could take map markers off (GPS still works if included in the mission) and leave tags on. X-hairs can go too. You can combine vet and cadet modes together to pretty much get what you like out of it. We have map markers off (so we don't get little red icons giving away the ai's position). but keep tags on so we know who's who. We turn off the MP scoreboard and auto reporting. I'd prefer these settings but I don't think they'll get changed to this.

Re: An alternative to Vet mode
The way I see it, we need to implement game elements to make up for our usual senses not being put to effective use in-game. For example, in rela life, we can see someones face, or name tag on the uniform and know it's them, but in-game, we don't have these things (unless custom faces are in effect) so name tags help. Just an example, I hope you understand what I'm saying. Also, we have to keep in mind, this is a game, if we turn off everything, ArmA is going to be tricky, we can't imitate real life scenarios and actions etc. in a game like this, so I think playing around with the settings is the best option.
But any changes TG make are usually for the best, so yeh. I'm all for this difficulty changing thing.

Re: An alternative to Vet mode
After playing in Vet mode today I think we should stay with the Friendly Tags, and also let us know who is speaking through the mic.
But no third person and no crossair made it feel like a challenge.

Re: An alternative to Vet mode
It's worth noting that some people use crosshairs primarily as reference, and not for aiming. Specifically, if you run TrackIR the way I (and others - but not all TIR users) do, having the crosshair as your reference helps a great deal. You typically aren't looking at the environment the same way as a non-TIR user, so being able to "center" yourself visually is only really possible with a solid reference like what the crosshair gives.

Re: An alternative to Vet mode
Ah thats a very good point, I guess it wasn't really the lack of a crossair that brought the challenge, I guess it was mostly the third person. Its nice when you cant look over a ridge, or around a corner, or over a fence with third person, but actually have to go over there and look your self.
