Re: #Server 1 Domination -Why?
Seeing that most people here don't like my personal script testbed, please TG admins, do me a favour and remove it completely, thank you.

Re: #Server 1 Domination -Why?
Hopefully BD will clear things up in the chat, but I think most negative expressions here are regarding an open public server with randoms joining and degrading play. Happens on any large Join In Progress mission. And as I said in my earlier post, much of the disdain for these types of missions comes from their popularity and the fact that they don't end in a timely fashion so another mission can be played. Many people forget how useful missions like these are for those who do not have a lot of time to devote to a round of ArmA, but still want a genuine experience.

Re: #Server 1 Domination -Why?
The biggest issue we have always had is "driveby hit and run's" unfortunately a Dom server with a lot of people on, attracts some of the less mature players and thus some people's experience is affected.
Xeno and I are chatting about maybe a TG version of Dom that carver and I can work on... As he has his hands a little tied up with ACE and ArmA2
I have to say, that simply by using the Schmalfelden version of Domination, it has reduced the number of "drive by pubbies" which is a good thing.

To echo what the others have said, its not that the mission is poorly written or thought out.Seeing that most people here don't like my personal script testbed, please TG admins, do me a favour and remove it completely, thank you.
Xeno
The scripts are excellent and clearly a ton of work has been poured into the mission, it really shows and its quite professional in design and appearance.
The problem is when you mix the public into this mission, and giving them the freedom to decide what they want to do. It inevitably turns into a lonewolf sniper fest, and the mission really does nothing to persuade players to do anything otherwise.
At the last times I have played domination, it did very little to persuade players to use any kind of teamwork or realistic military tactics, I think that is the main complaint that most at TG have with the mission.
It certainly has some great potential, and is hugely popular, but Xeno how often do you play on these public domination servers, and do you notice the lackluster player behavior that seems pretty consistent from server to server? Stuff like:
- lack of communication
- lack of any kind of command system or command element
- no real use of realistic military tactics
- lack of players moving in realistic ways or behaving like a real life infantry/vehicle would.
It's very common to just see each man attacking the objective in his own way, by himself, with little communication with others. Makes for a good singleplayer/AI experience, but not so much on multiplayer especially on TG where players are used to a certain level of organization.
However, a workable/stable JIP mission is extremely necessary to keep server populations high, I just wish domination had more restrictions on it to persuade players to not be such big asshats/lonewolves all the time.

Re: #Server 1 Domination -Why?
LATEST DEVELOPMNTS............
With Xeno's permission I have taken Domination Schmalfelden and made it a little more "TG"......
Now there is a PCO, I have removed the MHQ's, Only Pilots can fly the helo's, added in ACE elements, added the Hind to enemy attack helo arsenal, changed the AI construction at target areas (i.e. not so much heavy armour, more infantry...etc) I have locked enemy vehicles....and changed the paradrop to be the only insertion option other than airlift or driving.
The Teleport has removal has left a couple of errors, but they do not stop gameplay....
Will have it loaded for tomorrow, people can give it a try and see what it's like... you may like the AI supressive fire!!

Re: #Server 1 Domination -Why?
think if possible removing paradrop would go a LOOONG way to making this mission played in a more teamwork manner (ie: you cant just die and randomly keep dropping into the combat zone every minute with ZERO help from rest of team)

Re: #Server 1 Domination -Why?
We'll see how it pans out. Thre is a time delay on when you can paradrop again, i may increase that. I dropped it down but we'll see.

Re: #Server 1 Domination -Why?
The schmalfelden domination seems to be pretty nice altough i aint played it too much, it seems varied/random and not all armour and inf is right here go kill it.
This makes far more interesting gameplay and is nice to just jump in and play, Its more about everyone doing their part to be a SL, and not pick up the 1st sniper rifle and find the tallest hill and kill the enemy from 1km away.
I always ask if any one is running a squad when i join a domination server, I either get no reply or something along the lines, me and him are doing side mission, me and him are snipers the town down.
Its really up to the individual player to say hey im going to lead a squad of 5 or 6 men, and for other TG members to have a team player mindset and not pic up the sniper rifle.PR ingame name - |TG-Irr| SilverJohn
