Which Graphic option kills your framerates??

    Hi guys,

been doing some experimenting with my graphics ingame...it seems in the advanced graphic option the option of "shadow detail" is the real FPS killer in my system...

eg. if I set the shadow detail to low my framerate drops to 25 in the menu screen..but if I completely disable the setting it jumps to 37 or 38!! that's a huge increase!!!

So...which setting is the killer for you??

Also, any thoughta on this Placebo???

    thanks,

    Chappie

Shadows, Anti Aliasing, Post Processing, Texture/Object Detail. Those seem to make the most difference for me.

I've got everything set to the max with 1280x1024 res. I'm getting decent to good framerates.

Re: Which Graphic option kills your framerates??

    My specs are:

    AMD 64 FX-57 CPU

Dual Geforce Nvidia 7800 GTX 512 mbs

    2 Gig of RAM

    Creative X-Fi soundcard

I have found that the SLi doesnt seem to be in use by ArmA right now, lets hope a patch sorts that out at some point.

I have found that the biggest drains on my system are:

    Resolution. i dropped down from 1600 x 1200 to 1280 x 1024 and found a big leap in frames.

Shadows: from very high to normal.

Post Processing: i found (as in Graw) that on high things were a bit "Bright" so i turned it down to low which also gave me a big boost in my frames, i tweaked the gamma and brightness to compensate a bit and it looks just fine.

My AA and AF are both on normal.

Everything else is on Very High, or High since altering them either made no change or just 1 or 2 frames which werent worth the difference in looks.

As always its a balance of what plays well but still looks good and at the moment its acceptable for me on these settings, i am getting between 30-100 in most enviroments, although it will drop down now and again in very severe settings such as very dense vegitation with AI/armour etc moving around as well.

So you think you can tell, Heaven from Hell ?.....

I'm getting fairly poor performance, so I'll need to do some tweaking. I have everything set to Low, but I'll try completely disabling some features like Shadows. I hope I don't need to upgrade my system, as I was really hoping to get another year (or two) out of it!

Lowering resolution, turning off shadows, disabling all AA and AF should do the trick for ya, Strag. Keep in mind that even us with high end systems experience noticeable slowdown with heavy AI activity or dense forest.

I realized that during the training missions I was getting incredible FPS... but in multi-player mode online I had to drop my settings to normal.

I get much better FPS offline than I do online. Doesn't make any sense...

Re: Which Graphic option kills your framerates??

I was able to tinker and get something decent set up tonight. Some settings I have at "Normal," while a few others I have at "Low" or "Disabled." Shadows are one thing I have completely disabled. I notice on maps with a lot of objects that my framerates get somewhat choppy, and of course this makes sense. I'll just have to suck it up for a bit and figure out what upgrades I might need to make. My specs (here you go, DigitalAssassin):

    P4 3.4GHz, 800MHz FSB
2GB RAM, Dual Channel at 800MHz
    BFG 6800 GT OC
    Sound Blaster Audigy 4
    2x 80GB SATA150 HDs in RAID 0

Yeah, it's still an AGP mobo. I was hoping to hold off on a major upgrade for a while longer, so maybe I can slap one more new AGP graphics card in there for the win.

Re: Which Graphic option kills your framerates??

I`ve seen a setting in the server(dedicated) that it locks framerate to a selectable number (say 30). I´m unsure what this setting does but this might be a clue to lower framerates on multiplayer.
