Re: Friday Nights AAR
Jex did an excellent job last night.. It was an extremely refreshing pause before the two missions we played... actually talking about what we were going to do before we went in and did wth ever we wanted.... Thanks a bunch Jex!!
As for the incident with the cresting of the hill and the KA-50... I came up with an almost flawless plan for this mission, explained it(twice) before we started and it was completely borked when the team attacked the bridge early... then proceeded to move across the bridge, again totally against the plan, and someone shot at a KA and they were all obliterated... As it was a short mission, and I have a short memory, I can try to recall the events of backlash to shed some light on the situtation. co_?? backlash. Jex asked for ideas for a plan. As he had just layed out the entire plan for the mission previously, I stepped up and called a plan almost immediatly. The mission is to move N, NE towards a bridge, attack&clear that bridge, move across to the small island and take care of two objectives: Attack&Clear the docks, and destroy the radio tower. My plan was pretty gd clear and I was honestly a bit in shock that what went down, did go down. The plan was to have the lone sniper (me) move straight N and get a good overwatch position of the bridge as well as mind the reinforcements arrow pointing down for the N on the main road. The rest of the team was to moved to a pre-designated hold position and do just that HOLD untill the bridge was cleared by me, as I would have a much much better postion AND a sniper rifle to clear the nearly double-digit squad that guarded it. My plan was that after I cleared the bridge for them( I didnt want anyone to die right off the bat at the bridge + reinforcements were a definate possiblity from the N so... I wanted them ready ). Then, and only then, the inf. squad was to move across the bridge carefully and wait for me to move the bank by their previous position to cover the S coast for their crossing. Then they were gonna move in and secure the island with my cover from the mainland.... pretty simple huh ? After a little trouble getting the AI under control, I made my way as fast as I could to my overwatch position. Although we had set it to sunny, the rain and fog were tremendous... I couldnt see a damn thing across the road... Next thing I know, someone(i know who) spawned in without even announcing anything, much less asking for assignments, runs up near me as Im hiding trying to assess the sit. I asked him what he was doing and why he wasnt with other team.. I got no response.. He eventually responded to someone else and I guess he moved down to the inf. squad... which had already begun attacking the bridge.. ??? yes. One casualty I believe came soon, then they moved across the bridge before I even knew what was going on and next thing I hear is a KA make two passes, what sounded like an m136 round fly thru the air, then the KA turns around and I see like 5-6 people die instantly...... there was some discussion about who shot at the helo but I never heard who did it... I moved down to the bridge to help out the 3 survivors. Barn was injured, hit some keys and was *poof gone, which left Merc(props merc) and I alone with an AI. Togother, covering the hell out of eachother he and I carried on and moved to the docks, clearing it, then proceeded to clear the radio tower. Mission success !! ... ?? or was it. Didnt feel like much of a success to me tbqh. Last edited by Gogeta; 10-20-2007 at 09:25 PM. |

Re: Friday Nights AAR
.. as for no-respawn issues.. I am now 100% for them! That was a blast, actually worring for my teammates' lives as well as my own. Im gonna make an effort to only pick no-respawn missions, and turn ALL AI off before starting. This is definatly what ArmA is at heart. Endless respawns are for other games. Being a looooong time CS player, which has no respawns, Ive always like that about it. You die... you stay dead untill the next round. GD BFx for taking that away from my mindset....

Re: Friday Nights AAR
Once the AI opened up on us, we had to engage as a lot of guys were already in the open. That was the turning point in the plan and once down that road, it led to the events as you described. It goes to show that it only takes one small event to change the course of destiny. Had the AI not seen us, it's probably the casualty rate would have been much lower.

![]() ![]() gets my vote too I think it will make people listen up more to the Battle plan so as to stay alive.Yes Jex I was one who got caught out in the open while moving over the open ground trying to reach cover for the next phase. Got my legs shot away but managed to crawl to the cover to my front only to find that the enemy was camped on the other side. I didn't last long got one of them but then got flanked - end of Barnaby. A casualty of the chaos of war, yes possibly but then it is entirely probable if we had taken a little more care and waited until people were in position to give a report I could still be alive now. Earlier in the mission I too shot unannounced we were weapons free but I didn't announce my target it was not a CQC situation but a long shot so I did have time to declare in case anyone was in the enemy view ....... there was. I didn't think anyone was that far on but there was so it's back to comms, the correct battle info needs to flow up and down. Still I enjoyed the experience made for an interesting change to the regular EVO missions and I'll be looking forward to doing more. It was a pleasure to be one of JEX's MIDNIGHT MARAUDERS. whooo jaaaa

Re: Friday Nights AAR
LOL
Yup Go, agree completely. 1 Life definitely makes a difference to the way people play. This obvious to anyone who plays with one life and moves to respawn alley. I think that may also be a problem with teamwork with respawns on, you don't really have to worry about your team mates because they can't die. Once you know you have only one life, you soon learn to adopt a different style otherwise you find it's you lying dead watching the others play and waiting for the next game. @Barn, by the time you got shot Barn, most of the squad was dead. I was referring to before the bridge. Just after we got over the bridge we all dies because somebody started taking pot shots at the Kamov. After that I think there were only 3 of you which changes the tactics considerably. A note on Fire conditions: Most of the time the fire condition will be at yellow, to shoot when fired upon or when you have no choice. Once firing has began then it is green across the board and back to yellow again once ceasefire has been ordered (generally when enemy contacts are down and the shooting has stopped). Some thought has to be considered here though. If we have contacts close and some contacts far, do we engage the far contacts even though they see nothing going on. Here I would say no unless they go active. In a fire fight the ideal situation is to set up in a superior position to that of the enemy and employ more firepower than they can and hopefully suprise them, hitting them on two fronts. In the example above, we may have this position on the near enemy, but the far enemy we don't have good position on, and we don't know what other squads are operating near them. To engage them without proper recon may not be a wise idea. We want to try to always put ourselves at maximum advantage over the enemy and know what is going on. This should give us fewer casualties if done right. |

Re: Friday Nights AAR
Jex we have the third server for "Events" able to be pulled up at anytime. Would it be helpful for us to have this running on Friday nights so that you can run your missions on the "Event" server thus denoting very visibly that we have a "special" mission going on?

Re: Friday Nights AAR
Whooooooooooooo yaaaaaaaa
Great Idea, that would be very Harry Kewel [cool] indeed but Jex's call. It would set people up to expect to wait to be assigned to a Sqd then be tagged to follow/ support a named grunt until up to speed with the mission status, if mid mission re-enforcing and of course listen out for and follow any orders.
