8/24/2008 Domination/Chantico

This AAR report concerns the attack on Chantico that occured today. It was my first time leading anything beyond a fireteam, so apologies if I made any mistakes.

All in all for me at least it was a great attack. Fireteam leaders were Bert, Beta and Grambo. There were around 20 players with each squad having about 5 members. Comms were excellent. Fireteam leaders did a great job. All of the grunts/enlisted performed equally well. I believe we had no kia and some wounded in each squad. RazersEdge provided excellent air support with the a10. All objectives were completed in a timely manner.

We began the mission by a chopper landing(nice piloting by Sam Hoy). After that the 3 fireteams took up positions to the east of the City, with elevation to observe targets. We called in air support followed by an arti strike. Thereafter, the enemy was engaged from the ridge position. Numerous enemy armor and infantry was downed. On my order we broke contact(very orderly manner, nice work by fireteam leaders). Once we rearmed we engaged again. Thanks to fireteam level AT work and air support by razer enemy was reduced to infantry and perhaps 1 bmp. Grambo Squad provided overwatch while the other two squads moved in. City was cleanly sweeped with no causalities. Radio Tower was blown and mission was completed.

Had great fun leading the mission, thanks for following orders and not cluttering comms.
S!

Thanks for putting me into that FT position, Parabellum, I'm not doing the lead part very often and I am sure I made quite a few mistakes. I remember beta saying something like "Nice, two medics taking point." Well, that was aimed at my squad, tried to change that after that, but not all of my team members always followed what I told them. I am not yet sure how to handle such cases without seeming overly unfriendly, I try to learn by watching other FTL/SL/PL, but that's not always helping in a concrete situation.

But still, despite having the feel of loosing it a bit at times, I had a great time. Your squad lead seemed very good to me, I'm sure many times will follow. :-)

Re: 8/24/2008 Domination/Chantico

In the short while I've been playing with TG I've never known a primary objective to be assaulted so well. it has usually involved battering ourselves against the town again and again until we finally break the armour.

The A10 support really made a huge difference, by the time it came to move into the city there was very little left to do. Watching the 2 squads form up at the eastern wall (I was doing overwatch in Grambo's squad) showed some excellent organisation and common sense, and from my position it seemed that both fireteam leaders did an excellent job of maintaining order and tactile movement, well done both of you.

I also never felt lost or wondering what I should be doing thanks to Grambo doing a good job of keeping us informed, despite a few mike problems that made him hard to hear.

Parrab11um, first time commanding? Get out of town! I assumed you were a regular, not an ounce of hesitation, you had the common sense to order a genral retreat at the beginning rather than leave us to be cut down by the heavy fire that greeted us initially.

Also the Mi17 that was brought down at the start, crashing into the hotel was an impressive sight.

All in all I had a thouroughly good time, this is exactly the type of expreience I was looking for when joining, thanks TG.

Ok, that's enough gushing comments from me lol.

Na, keep the gushing comments coming guys! Our egos love it!

I am starting to think that air support can make a nice difference, if used properly! It is no fun if the air does all the work, but planned bombing runs and certain targets certainly adds to the teamwork element!

Especially when most cities are ridiculously well-guarded with air targets: It's almost impossible for a proper infantry squad to assault the city effectively without CAS, or some form of anti-armor support!
