One I ran to in an attempt to take out the other armor and I was mowed down by one of our MGers with an M249. It was funny.... Great mission.
Yeah....sorry about that. I didn't think the BMP was clear. I knew there were still infantry and armor around.

i enjoyed the mission tons, and we need to set up a day to play that out fully, with atleast 40+ people.... THEN, we got some serious work.....

Had my first rip on Gloria last night, i have to say, the sheer scope is amazing, and somehow the AI feel more real, that ambush on the coast road was exquisite......Hell, its so ig it could go persistant, but i definately think we need to try this again soon when the server is busy!

Re: Gloria 8/28/08

Gloria 9/1/08

Again, it was absolutely great. Even though the squad was rather small (and became smaller and smaller during the mission), it was the best run of this mission yet.

We inserted west of Mercallilo instead of the previous ones, where we started east of Corazol. After getting ambushed in the woods west of Mercallilo and re-ordering the squad, we seized a farm complex south of Mercallilo, meeting up with a Mk19 Stryker. After a few contacts around the complex, a squad was spotted at a farmhouse 200m away. We took out quite a few of them, when suddenly several tanks and infantry approached our position from the east. We got beat up pretty badly and those that survived this barely made their way out in the Stryker before our position was rolled over by the enemy units (good decision to get outta there, Beta ;-)).

This was, for me, definitely one of the most intense battles. The whole mission is an absolute cracker. When you play Domination, you may have a few intense moments in several hours of playing. With this mission, now even with grouped "counter-attacks", it is an absolute thrill and sometimes retreat is even the only option because the AI acts in a way that you normally don't see in other missions and therefore don't expect.

Cudos again to Beta, only thing that makes me wonder: why has noone else yet come up with something as funny as this?

Re: Gloria 8/28/08

Gloria 9/2/08-9/3/08-Evening to late night.

Yet another awesome run at Gloria.
I started off the mission in charge of 4th Section(Javelin Squad). Under my command was Daniel and Irish(longer name just can't remember the rest of it). Beta was the commanding officer of the mission. Gloria is always a blast and this time was no exception.

We encountered numerous enemies near Mercallilo. After some brief scrimishes with infantry and a bdrm we were suddenly blitzed by at least 2 tanks. 1 was taken out by Jav squad and then we made a quick tactical retreat under Beta's orders.A short while later I experienced a crash of my router.

Once I came back I found 4th Section reduced to a single member(me). Rejoining the rest of the players we next assualted Obregan. This resulted in an awesome battle across the Bridge into the city. I manged to take out another t72 with the Javelin. As ammo was running low a tactical withdrawal was made across the same bridge. It was an incredibly fun moment as we moved back to our trucks whilst still engaging the enemy. Once rearmed we again pushed for Obregan. Unfortunately, our CO beta then suffered a grisly fate at the hands of an enemy grenade. Blackdog then took CO and we proceeded to clear Obregan.
Towards this point we had gone from around 20 players to around 10. Tito and I were then sent on recon. After taking out 2 bdrms(1 regualr 1 at). We were pursued by ei and had to make a hasty retreat. As we moved to our next recon position over Evron Tito was shot and I was left alone in the dark landscape. I witnessed a tense attack by Blackdog and his men as they attacked an aa bdrm and were pursued by no less than 10 ei, 3 t72s and a bmp.

After reorging with the remaining 5 people on we proceeded to clear out Modesta. I remained on station at an overwatch position with my remaining jav round. Then as it neared 7:00am my time I ended up calling it a night.
All in all a very fun mission. Very good leading by Blackdog and Beta. My squad performed well and did their jobs. Ironpants provided air transport despite the numerous aa into the early hours of the morning. One of my favorite maps(kudos to Beta).

Re: Gloria 8/28/08

Oh yes, that was really funny once again.

I noticed a few things, not for the first time though, and not directed to anyone specifically, since I often don't know who they are (but it's not always newcomers!). This might not be quite the right place to say this, but since it's always especially striking on this mission, I'll do it here anyway.

When the commanding guy tells you to stop firing and retreat, please do so. If a retreat is delayed because you feel the urge to kill an enemy at all cost, you are endangering the lifes of all. If I were at command at that time, I'd just leave you behind (maybe that's why I am having commanding positions so rarely *g*). I don't know what drives certain people, but sometimes it seems people only care for making a kill even if they get killed while trying or even endanger their squad with their behaviour.

Next one goes to formation movement: When walking in a column, there is NO prize to win when you are constantly overtaking the guy walking in front of you. Stay at your place in the column with respect to called out spacing. Don't run 10 meters to the side or similar. It happened in this specific mission that we where running around at night in a column, when suddenly we were attacked by infantry from the side. One guy had been wandering off to one side and was now between me and the shooting enemy so that I could not open fire and had to find a position where he was out of my line of fire. Behaviour like that gets me really mad. ;-) Also don't stop all the time. Move with the same speed as the point guy.

Seeing those thing, I think more squad movement training might be necessary by BD or whoever wants to tell us how to behave decently. =)

Re: Gloria 8/28/08

Guys, I appreciate the feedback on this mission, but please feel free to create a new thread with the date of your experience...... as this one is clearly marked in relation to the 28th of August... It makes it MUCH easier to find if a ribbon nomination is posted *hint *hint
