Yes and no, Xmaster was 1IC of the op but he was also the squad leader of the special forces (Bluefor). Jeepo was 2IC of the op but squad leader of the Independants. Technically we were about at half strength for a platoon and we had some air support (only blackhawk was used though). Xmaster being 1IC would technically be considered the Plt Commander but he had to fill the role of squad leader for Bluefor also since the mission designer didn't actually make a seperate position for Plt Commander or Squad Leader. The Independent side consisted of 3 overstrength fire teams and Bluefor used most of the pilot slots as infantry so in total we were a small plt but the way the mission designer made the groups and split us between Bluefor and Independent, it gives the feeling of 2 oversized squads.
According to the plan, both squads were to function independent of each other until at the objective so this allowed him to focus on Squad Leading as opposed to having to manage things going on in a different part of the city. From my understanding, Xmaster stayed in charge of Bluefor and Big64 took lead after all the casualties for Independent. Both squads were running separately from each other and weren't really working together until they met up at the objective area.
So yes, Xmaster was the Plt Commander and was a squad leader and he set it up to be manageable. Big64 became the squad leader of the Independents a little after contact but I believe Xmaster survived the entire mission so he maintained command. I'm not entirely sure on who survived so I may be wrong.
I posted the difference between Fireteams, squads, and plt's on the Tactics, missions and Mods section for all to read. Should help everyone to get a good understanding on the subject we are talking about here.
