Re: AAR- Sunday Sign up 30/08/2009

Gents,

Thanks again for your participation and accommodation today. It was a pleasure to see you guys enjoying a great mission and to have the opportunity to speak with you about Arma and TG.

First off:

I have a few more notes/requests for anyone that'd like to contribute anything additional for the article.

VIDEO / SCREENSHOTS / RECORDED AUDIO
Send to the following FTP:
Host: sfftp.futureus.com
Login: epcgamer
PW: whynot!

If anyone recorded their squad's TeamSpeak channel, please forward that file to me. It's extremely helpful to have that available. Also, I need screenshots of the (end of game) scoreboard and ANY images of the mission map you may have taken.

PLAYER PROFILES
I'm running a section alongside the article that highlights a handful of players from our mission--it's meant to put a more personal face on the people in TG (and not as a way of publishing your personal info, promise). Many of you already provided this in the follow-up interview, but if you'd like to fill it out again to avoid any errors (PM it to me if you're more comfortable with that), that'd be helpful.
Callsign:
Rank/Position/Squad from our mission:
TG "faction" (Irregulars, etc.):
Location (Country/State):
Age:
Profession:
Type/span of military service, if any:
Preferred Arma role:
Favorite weapon/vehicle to use in Arma:
A higher-res, profile-style (forward-facing) photo of yourself, if you'd like to include it.

Sorry to ask for all this information, but hey--it's not every day you get to be in a gaming magazine, right?

COMMENTS
Thanks again to everyone who stuck around in the channel to chat about the TG community and our session. If you'd like to offer more comments, post them in this thread by TUESDAY, Sept. 1. I'm mainly looking for perspective on:
-Highlight (and describe) a moment from our mission that stands out.
-When (or if!) you talk to a family member, friend or other gamer about playing with TG, how do you describe it to them? What's their reaction?
-(Anything else you're inclined to include).

Again, my supreme thanks for all your participation, guys. Speaking for myself, it's an honor to be able to produce something that highlights a hardcore group of gamers that are invested in facilitating one another's experience. If you have any other questions/needs, please ping me here or more directly at evan@pcgamer.com. Cheers!

Yes PC Gamer issue of September 23rd... On stands 20 days after Sep23. It will be five page main article about this battle and the community.
I had great fun photographing. Evan and I had the chance to look enemy straight in the eye and take their photographs while cleaning their gun for them.

I have forty something screens but selected majority is as follows.

Overall Plan and map markings.

Going to war. Initial assignment of helicopters and mounting of troops was very smooth. We were ready to go in matter of minutes.

Landing. Recce team and Heavy Weapons team along with the reporters. Recce team protected the Heavy Weapons team. Heavy weapons had a perfect overwatch position.

Command Element setting things up at LZ Echo.

It has begun. Check out Evan in the corner.

Helicopter doing preemptive strike

Front line took some casualties.

Sniper. Strugis was part of Recce and was a sniper. He was sniping non-stop for 30 minutes with one of their squad mates bringing ammo to him. 70 kills .

Suppressing fire. MG team doing the dirty work.

Reinforcement. Some of the reinforcements rushing to the front line to lend much need hand.

Get down. This guy unsure of his future, gave me a pose by chance.

Excuse ME! Can I get an interview? (Carver's video). This enemy squad flanked the whole line and wiped out command element.

Where is the helicopter?. The reinforcements waiting for a lift to the front lines.

What a show?. All three of the Hueys engaged the enemy HQ once it was discovered. Somebody has that video. It was a sight to watch from afar.

Take That!!!. Enemy HQ camp. Completely decimated.

Group pictures. Gather up everybody and salute. Ghost was stuck in the helicopter. So he was not in the picture.

Well there is an interesting story about this. Last year I was assigned a buddy to work on a Biology project, and he asked me what I do for fun. I responded, "I write essays and sit. But I have the best time doing it." He asked me wtf I was talking about, so I explained Arma and such, by the end he said I must be a crazy fool to want to sit and do transport or artillary for hours on end. To quote blackhawk down, "They ask me why I do it, it is about the man next to you, thats all." Many good friends of mine are in this community and this game. Knowing that each artillery round, or each 5.56 bullet helps them out that much more brings enjoyment to me. It truely is about the man next to you that keeps you coming back. Certanly isn't the kill-boards!

Re: AAR- Sunday Sign up 30/08/2009

That was great fun, and an absolute priviledge to lead. This mission, until today had not been beaten and today we beat it. We took 56 guys and played for over 2 hours and lost a total of 60 player lives (I think) (unfortunately the majority to friendly fire from air strikes or artillery) yet we have of idea how many AI we killed, but it was huge... We destroyed a HUGE amount of forest land and the landscap had a very REAL feel of what happenes with huge firefights and artillery/rockets support...devastation.

In this time we had combat with wave upon wave of enemy. I have never faced such aggresive enemy Ai behaviour, both flanking and wave reinforcements... truly a tough mission to compete againsts... At one point I turned to my left holding LZ Echo..the only person there... as everyone else was on the frontline..and suddenly realised that I had an entire enemy rifle squad to my left ALL looking at me... the end result was no pretty after I had called in a request for support and enemy in the lines...

The mission resulted in a success, we destroyed the enemy concentration camp which was the primary Objective and I AM VERY....REPEAT VERY PROUD... of all my squad leaders.... YOU ALL DID A SUPERB JOB.

PcGamerEvan got to see tonight... a snapshot of what TacticalGamer.com is all about...

We are here to have fun, have mature play, not swear the crap out of each other, and ultimately...beat the mission that we have been tasked to beat.

You ALL did a superb job, I thank you, as it made my life a lot easier.

nthamma... Personally I would like to thank you for your continued efforts in making missions for TG. This was superb...... the very essence of what TG is all about! Good job mate.

Evan... you will be more than welcome at any future TG event, I hope tonight you have seen ONE style of how we do things, others have slightly different styles and unlike ANY other community, we have NO REQUIREMENTS, no requirements to be in x,y, and z position to be a part of it... yet we took completley random players and beat a very tough mission without ANY specialist ArmA2 training...

In short...its not about any guides, or clan/team memberships that makes ArmA2 so much fun.... its the guys you play with, to enjoy what is not an FPS...but a military simulation....TacticalGamer.com truly is one of the very best place on the internet to play ArmA2 at the very highest level....

Finally.... I would like to add one thing. My Squad Leader in charge of my air assualts faced some personal private loss during this event with regards his family (his grandfather passed on). Despite this, he carried on playing, did his job and helped us beat this mission. Browna3, you have my utmost respect, best wishes and condolences my friend....you know where your friends are at TG, whenever you need us for a chat, you'll find us......Blue skies my friend, blue skies...

Best Regards to all for a truly great TG Sunday Mission.....

Re: AAR- Sunday Sign up 30/08/2009

For those interested in what the Squad Leaders received before this mission started...

Read this... it may explain more why we did what we did...
http://www.4shared.com/file/12860148..._Briefing.html

There is method to the madness!

I issued that briefing at 3.45am on Satruday morning Pacific time on Saturday...as it took me a while to sort players decide final options and deal with RL issues.....as you can see the final list in the briefing changed considerably on GAME day...which is why we were delayed longer than I would have wished.....

To give you guys an idea....the planning for this mission inclusive of writing the briefing took around 15 hours in total.... Being a mission CO is hard work, but when you get the resul that we did today..it is VERY worth while.. I encourage you ALL to have a go....

Well done all...

Unfortunately I was unable to be involved in the event, but I did listen in. Awesome commanding and planing Blackdog1, and great job to all who played today. Tacticalgamer.com is a awesome place to play Arma2 and all of the other games that Tactical Gamer is involved in.

My regards go to Browna3 and his family. Good luck mate and remember you have a lot of friends here at TG that are here for you!

I really enjoyed the event. The realism in this game is superb, especially in a great mission such as this.

Thanks to everyone for playing but especially to SL'er BigC and FTL Lq.Snake for running a great squad.

Looking forward to the next one.

I would just like to agree with everyone else and say this was another good game. Shame I never killed a single enemy, but ironsights at dark o'clock will do that to ye. It was still a real blast [friendly arty/cas fire only adds to the realism, right? =], and I hope to be around for the next event.

This is why I love this game the sound of a bullet or bullets flying over your head makes you duck.
