Re: AAR- Sunday Sign up 30/08/2009
One thing I would like to add was the way the mortar team was handled.
Mortar team did not get maps and without a map it impossible for us to use grids for fire missions since the target menu only has 4 digit grids. The mortar team needs maps so they can accurately use the mortars.
Lucky I have used artillery before and understood how to use them but W.Chepie(sorry if i misspelled) had never used artillery before. While the M2 crews did get a chance to deploy their equipment but neither of the mortar gunners got the chance. I also never got to explain the way to us the Target Menu to him until we were in the field and once we were on the ground the comms were poor since both the heavy weapons team and the recce team were in the same channel(lots of chatter). So for the first half of the round W.C was learning with some help and Jeepo was calling in mortar strikes. The first 2 strikes were good but after that Jeepo was getting to distracted. A few times he was calling in mortar strikes on "The mortar marker" when there were multiple mortar markers. The second half of the round W.C was providing illumination and I did 1 or 2 fire missions. Then Jeepo had to assault the LZ and during/after that assault my mortar was not used again, save for some illumination rounds I fired on the LZ while W.C was reloading. Now I am not sure if it was because Jeepo was trying to handle an assault or it was because their was no need for further fire missions but from the amount of people dieing at the time I would suspect the former.
Ways things could of be improved:
1) is to have people read Zedics fancy comms guide which includes proper artillery/mortar requesting.
2) Give the mortar team maps
3) Have the mortar team answer to the commander instead of the heavy weapon SL.
-OR-
Let each squad leader request mortars of their own volition.
4)Do not put 2 teams in the same channel regardless of squad size.

Let me inform you on a few things.
1. The mortar markers were coming from me as the CO was coordinating Arty and the mortars were assigned the common route the enemy was coming from. The mortar markers were also contained to the group channel. Now of course you didn't know any of this but hopefully my input will prevent any future posts about what went wrong and why.
2. The mortar team was under the command of the heavy weapons team who was getting orders from the C.O. If the mission planner intended for the mortars to be commanded by the C.O. he probably would have put them in with the arty team or even under the C.O's group. Just some food for thought.
3. My response is towards EVERYONE that has seen problems with using TS. TG has no other means of offering a means of communication and beating on our TS setup isn't going to fix anything. We all should be beating at the doors of BIS then pointing fingers at TG as to how we have operated our TS comms in the past and future. Yes comms got hectic by putting the two groups in one channel but that's how it worked out and it was needed because the RECCE team was providing defense for the Weapons team. Instead of having myself talking to just Grunt, this allowed his entire team to be able to respond to threats as i called them out. Im not tearing your post apart Blackmain but just offering another veiwpoint.
Anyways, i think this was a stepping point for event missions at TG. Some didn't like it, alot did because they understand what TG is about and understand that running a public community at this level is great and is something that the community needs and allows the game to be played correctly.
I am currently working on another event video which hopefully ya'll will enjoy.
Marc.

It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others

Re: AAR- Sunday Sign up 30/08/2009
I would think that some of the points raised are taken way, way too harshly. This far I haven't heard anyone saying that they didn't like the event. However there ALWAYS things that can be improved, even when things are done well, and I for one think that it is good everything that can be talked about is talked about. Everyone wants the events to keep being at least as good as this one, and everything that can be improved should be improved.
Maybe the things mentioned have been thoughtfully decided to be as they are, maybe they could be bettered, and maybe someone understood it all wrong. However I think that it is better that people speak their minds, than that everyone is silent because it was 'good enough'. If nothing else they get a clarification on why things were done as they were.
In the end, an awesome event and we all keep hoping it'll just get better

Sorry to interrupt, gents. What was the specific name of the song used for the mission intro, and where is it from/who composed it? Thank you.

Where does the idea the in-game voice is broken come from? I played all day on a warfare server and used in-game voice the entire game(5 hours). Several other people on the team also were using VOIP and i would imagine that the other team was similar.

Re: AAR- Sunday Sign up 30/08/2009
there were anywhere from 24-32 people on the server. People came and went as the game went on.

Not correct.....
This mission had 57 slots in the end....
At mision start we had only 1 spare slot....
So for the vast majority of the mission we had 56 players with a few disconnections on average I would say no less that 45 players!
I have no idea where you got those numbers above from.
