How to get started with ArmA2 at TG

I've just bought and installed ARMA 2 and want to play with my friends at TG. What do I do next?

Step 1) No matter what version your current game is running, download and install the latest patch for ARMA 2. Currently, that's patch 1.04.

Patch 1.04 (134 mb)
*** IMPORTANT! Steam Users: Do not use the above patches - Your game should update automatically through Steam.

2. It will install all content of the patch to the folder with your ArmA 2 installation (default is C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2 or Bohemia Interactive\ArmA2).
  • Please note that it is not possible to rollback to a previous version after the installation of this patch, only a full reinstall of the game is possible, if you want to keep your previous version you may want to backup the entire game installation folder before applying this patch.
  • It is not recommended to use any savegames created in versions 1.00 or 1.01, if you use a savegame from 1.02 some of the fixes may not apply to that game in progress until the beginning of a new mission.
Step 2) Download and install the TG mod pack using Yoma's automagical AddonSync.

Please visit this link for Step 2.
Step 3) Familiarize yourself with the Basic Rules and Procedures, TG ArmA SOPs, and general expectations:
  • Teamwork, communication, and maturity are required.
  • You must follow all Commander and Squad Leader orders.
  • It is required that you hop onto our Teamspeak when playing on the servers to get the full community experience, as well as the passwords to our servers.

Step 4) Join us on the server by completing the following:

Join us on TG's Teamspeak Server. If you need extra helping getting Teamspeak set up, consider reading this guide. Obtain the passwords by reading in the information in the ArmA channel descriptions, located on the right-side panel in Teamspeak. Then continue to stay on Teamspeak to communicate with your teammates, even if you don't have a microphone it helps to stay in touch.

(You must have a registered TacticalGamer.com Forum account to access Teamspeak)

Passwords to the servers are located in the ArmA2 channel descriptions (right-side panel) in Teamspeak. Double check that you've patched your game correctly before joining the servers .

Server 1 Alpha IP: 64.34.178.169, Port: 2302 (Passworded - PW available on TG Teamspeak)

Server 2 Bravo IP: 64.34.178.169, Port: 2312 (Open and Public - No PW necessary)

Further Information on VON and Teamspeak

UPDATE: With the latest ArmA2 patches, in-game VON IS NOW WORKING on our servers without any problems. It is still required that you participate on Teamspeak so we know where you got the password.

Currently, we have two servers for ArmA 2 running. However, due to the problems faced with the new VON (Voice Over Network) of ArmA 2 , the servers are passworded to ensure the high quality of play. To obtain the passwords, register a forum account at http://www.tacticalgamer.com/index.php, then click on the Teamspeak button at the top. Once on our Teamspeak, obtain the passwords to the servers by viewing the ArmA 2 Channel Description. Being on Teamspeak while playing on the TG servers will help with coordination and communication in-game until a patch is released to fix the problematic VON. While having a password on will generally decrease player numbers, TG will always support quality over quantity while also trying to maintain a good balance between the two.

A simple guide to the basics of using Teamspeak with ArmA2 has been created here.

Much of the above information was just updated to accommodate the changes to our servers, the most important one being VON IS BACK!

ArmA2 need only be updated from 1.00 -> 1.04, previous patches not needed. I support this fact with my latest reinstall, from 1.01 (Initial german release -> Latest version).

True. It even says this in the patch 1.04 description on the Arma2 website:

All right, first post is updated with the most current information, as well as a continuation of the requirement to be on TG Teamspeak while playing.

Could use another update as bravo and alpha aren't specific game modes anymore. Small inaccuracy but may confuse new players who read this.

Question:

TG will combine the "mod pack" with ACE2?

Re: How to get started with ArmA2 at TG

Now I understand when installing mods, like the modpack, that one is supposed to update the shortcut, but how doesn't that work when playing arma through steam? I have tried updating the "Launch Options" but though that works for nosplash, it does not seem to for mods.

Go to "c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2" (or where ever steam is installed on your pc) and make a shortcut of the arma2.exe file and put it on your desktop and add the mod activation line to that.

Works fine this way for me.

Re: How to get started with ArmA2 at TG

Ended up doing that, seems to work fine. I just kinda hoped that I was doing something wrong with "set launch options" since I like opening the games from steam.
