Thanks, guys, I thought it was simply called VOIP in all instances. Glad to hear they are addressing it as TSO is just one more thing to hog resources.

well this issue should be resolved if they go to tcp/ip instead of UDP for the VON processing, we can all hope, but I think the in game chat is doomed.

I think due to the fact that in fell on its fell at release, that the communities confidence in it may be ruined, but I am praying that I am proved wrong, as this a feature that can really be used in a sim like this.

Well, based on the fact that I've used it, I can say with some authority that VOIP in 1.09, in particular the "direct speaking" channel, is amazing.

I'm hoping to be able to release some footage of it in use in the not-too-distant future to show off how much it adds to the MP experience.

Some of us actually started using this during a recent Co-op session - I'm not exactly sure why it was working so well, but we had a blast. I agree, it's amazing - not only because of what it is (tying your voice to your character's mouth) but because of how well it works - directionals, head turns, and objects in the way all effect the sound. Extremely immersive.

1.08's VOIP is a nightmarish catastrophe, to be perfectly frank. If it worked for you, it was probably a fluke. The sound volumes are all out of whack, there are crash bugs, the NAT translation fails more often than not, etc etc. It's painful to use at best.

The VOIP in 1.09 is significantly improved in many ways, but I won't get into detail on exactly how until I've cleared it with BIS. Suffice it to say that 1.09's VOIP is a major, major improvement over the 1.08 and prior VOIP.

That sounds great, you'd actually have to shout if you're too far away, and you could whisper to avoid being heard in TvT covert-ops (or just for immersion's sake).
