Ive never seen a problem with vista...dont really know why everyone hates it so much..a few problems and it is classed as evil and attempts to do weird sexual things to the insides of your computer o.O

Vista doesn't make it instant. My fast computer does. I use XP (sometimes I run my games in Wine) and switching from ArmA to CoD4 is instant (yes, I tried it). I also underclock my processor to 2.33GHz to make the fan run quieter. My problem with Vista, though, isn't performance. It's the interface--too clunky.

Was thinking of picking this up VIA steam, and I'd really like some input from you experts out there on how you think my system will run it. I meet min specs, but usually, that doesn't say much.

OP: Windows XP
CPU: P4 2.4GHz
Memory: 1GB
Video: Radeon x800XL (256mb)
Sound: On-board

I can live with low-detail, just worried about how smooth it'll run, especially now that it's been out for a while, and I'm sure the FPS issues I had with the demo have been somewhat corrected.

You'll probably have trouble with that Pentium 4; I know nothing about your graphics card. I get roughly 85% of the frames per second I do in Call of Duty 4 (both on my laptop with all lowest settings and on my desktop with all highest settings).

Youll probably have to run everything on teh lowest settings, but it still wont be too too bad... I would definitely think about getting another gig of ram though..

heh, my PC is about as upgraded as it's ever gonna get. Buying (or building) a new PC at present time is entirely out of the question.

big c has it right on the nose... my alt tab takes 1 sec to get to desktop and 3 sec to get back to ANY game.. 8gb of ram is bliss, and having the page file turned off makes it even faster, because instead of calling for the hard drive... its all in the memory, everything that WOULD be in the swap file, is just sitting in the ram...i have never seen my memory usage go above 6.5GB out of 8... that is running arma, with firefox open(10+tabs...200-600mb in memory) bitlord downloading(400mb in memory at times) steam, xfire, all using more memory (ZOMG SYSTEM RESOURCE HOGGER... wrong.. the memory is there for a reason... take as much as you need, i got 8 589 934 592 bytes to go around =P)

I think my average is probably around 30fps

Low is usually in the 19 range and highs in the 40-50s

no, i disable 4gb to play arma, and it alt tabs better than yours.. my komputer is teh uber 1337 and urs is teh suxxor tbh... can your computer run fraps, while playing arma all max settings with 6500 view distance, css all max settings, and convert video play ikariam, and surf teh pron sites all while getting 55fps in arma, 60fps in css, and eat a PBJ sammach without dropping a crumb on the keyboard?
