Re: Fresh blood

Phaeden, thanks a bunch for organizing things today, I've had a blast and even got my first attempt at leading more than a fireteam (sorry to all if I've been a little disorganized, it was a bit overwhelming). I've even been late for work just to finish the mission

Gogeta, the second crash I had earlier that night was like the classic:

Think I can make it in between there?

Nope.

Oh, ye of little faith, look how big that is.... Ooooff!

Vic, you did a great job - really.

Re: Fresh blood

Are there gonna be any classes for leading teams with this new traffic? I think I'd like to give it a shot.

In addition to that, a review of the SOP posts would be great by all involved - the comms tonight were ridiculous.

Oh, and finally - "Over" is not a punctuation mark. If you're going to use it, use it right, and don't simply replace your periods, commas, and "Uhh"'s with it.

Re: Fresh blood

Good idea. While I am but a visitor here, I really like the way that the server encourages people to work as a team as well as to take command.

My words exactly. I couldn't count on two hands the number of people using global VON for what would've been far more appropriately communicated via direct voice. It got a lot better in the TvT mission we played next.

Re: Fresh blood

Direct chat isn't reliable because you don't know who can and cant hear you... hence the tendancy for people to use global. If missions don't have squads set up properly, you can't use the group channel so its either side/global or direct chat and not knowing who hears you.

Re: Fresh blood

Actually, you DO know who can and can't hear you. If someone's RIGHT next to you, they CAN. If someone's on the other end of the map, they CAN'T. If you're asking someone to get out of your helicopter, use direct chat or vehicle chat, not global or side chat.

Re: Fresh blood

Could we updated the COMMS SOP with info on when and where to use each Comm Channel?

Many people are still confused as to what the difference is between the comms.

WHITE -> Global -> All players VON
BLUE -> Side -> Team-wide VON
GREEN -> Group -> Squad-only VON
PINK -> Direct -> Speaking-distance-only VON
YELLOW -> Vehicle -> Vehicle-only VON

My opinion is that only Squad and Fire Team leaders should use anything above Green. In fact, I wish regular fire team members would stick to Direct chat only. Shouldn't they always be within shouting distance anyway?

Re: Fresh blood

We are still evaulating VON and how it fits into our comms structure and will adjust SOPs as appropriate once the picture is more clear.

If you notice something that works or doesn't work please let is know so we can build as solid of an SOP as possible.

Thanks for your input and continue to give us feedback!

Re: Fresh blood

I read somewhere once that there was this group that had loads of experience with VON and had worked out the absolutely perfect way to utilize it in combination with Teamspeak.

I wish I could get in contact with the leader of that group again, I bet he'd be happy to explain it all to TG...

It's hard for anyone not to read between your lines. While I appreciate your significant contributions to the ARMA community I'm disappointed to see such outright cynicism from a leader of the overall ARMA community. I'd expect your passive/aggressive comment on the state of TG at ARMA would be better suited in a private message to the Game Officer or some of the more active server admins. It's one thing to hear this from a random pubber but I think your message, from a leader in the ARMA community, is very misplaced.

Our admins do the best job they know how and I personally am offended at your comments.
