Re: 4 Short Videos (Swimming, Building Destruction, ...)

I see. I guess that one will have to learn how it will work out over time.

How ever, my fantasy is already revolving around the idea of being able to play a game of such map-size and a high ammount of players. The potential in terms of coordination and tactical gaming must be huge.

Re: 4 Short Videos (Swimming, Building Destruction, ...)

indeed. not speaking or reading Deutsch, I have not been able to research the game as much as I would like.

The game has sick potintial. Those who enjoyed more tactics and squad movements will gravitate to the game. The Rambo's should have some fun also. But not on the maps were you only have one life to live. They would be dissapointed.

I mean did Rambo have an awsome kill streak or what.

Maybe a 150/1 kill death ratio at the worst. lol.

I believe that this feature will make all the difference in terms of how the game will be played. Everyone will have to cooperate and use teamplay in order to prolong their presence in each round.

A hunch would be that a community like TG will have the ability to excel in such a game.

Re: 4 Short Videos (Swimming, Building Destruction, ...)

indeed, if it does not work here, it will not work anywere.

I hear tale that you can join the game while a mission is already going on, this will be a huge improvment to seeding the server early.

As I understand it there will be many AI players that can be removed when a person joins the server. You will be able to have very large battles with only four players since each player can control 12 AI soldiers.

Re: 4 Short Videos (Swimming, Building Destruction, ...)

For those new to OFP, here is the mod made for OFP, that the new ArmA "large-scale" multiplayer is based off of.

http://mfcti.sourceforge.net/

If you're having a hard time researching the game, www.armedassault.eu has some great archives, and lots of screenshots.

If you're lazy, then don't worry about it, and just trust that this game will be the greatest thing ever

I know that a few of us here are thinking of getting the German version, since the English version won't be available until February at the earliest, and downloadable after that. (posted on the forums today as a result of an e-mail reply from IDEA games)

Thanks for the intel boudreux

"How big is this Island, Sahrani?
The Island will be above 400 square kilometers (~155 Square miles)."
Source: http://www.armedassault.eu/forum/vie...&thread_id=481

Guys, correct me if I am wrong, but is the square root of 155 miles about 12.5 miles. As in you would need to walk 49.76 miles (12.5*4) if you walked the perimeter of the map and eneded were you started?

Could this be? IF so how can they have the memory to do such a thing.

Will we be buying a game were to play it you must trade you soul to the devil?
Cause if so, I'm already spent. (Metal Gear Solid III)

The maps are really that big. OFP had big maps and ArmA has even bigger maps. It's just the way the game was designed. It probably loads everything on the fly and is efficient at swapping meshes out when not needed. Even with OFP, a semi decent system of today's standards might have to turn down the view distance. You could have true sniping distances compared to other games where a sniper shot is a measly 150 yards.

Boy you said, you can't see very far in BF2.

Just like in Real life, I trust that infantry with just iron sights can hit 150 meters with ease in ArmA?

Re: 4 Short Videos (Swimming, Building Destruction, ...)

Definately. Shots out to 300 meters (like in real life) without too much prep. There is breathing involved with shooting, more accurate if you are crouched/prone.

Re: 4 Short Videos (Swimming, Building Destruction, ...)

I was curious about the chain of command in the game and the amount of command positions.

I trust it will be just like in real life.

grunts
squad leaders
Platoon leaders
Company Commander (If not two or three)

With all those players and AI players on the battlefield there should be something like this. And with VOIP, this would really work out.

P.S. notice my change in sig with regards to Armed Assault.

Re: 4 Short Videos (Swimming, Building Destruction, ...)

RO ultimately failed at TG because the VOIP system was flawed and it was generally difficult to get any decent amount of teamwork going. There seemed to be more measures in place to prevent teamwork than to promote it. Granted, a cohesive mip squad could do it, but in an average squad made up of random TG people that dont know eachother, it was virtually impossible. BF2 attracted a lot of people because the teamwork system was very intuitive. From what ive heard arma is even more intuitive, so the only thing that could possibly hold this game back is a lack of promotion or a bad demo.
