Re: This game might be it!
We play every Saturday and have been having ~30-person turnouts for awhile. The games usually last from 6pm CST until midnight or later, depending. Things are expected to ramp up with ArmA, too.
I'm really surprised that for a forum called "TacticalGamer" that more of you aren't playing Operation Flashpoint. |

Re: This game might be it!
Like what another has said, Operation Flashpoint was 'it', and would have been 'it' a long time ago here at TG, but I guess that not enough people participating in proliferation of OFP and the ancient "Join in forty minutes, or the next round" made OFP not gaining a good foothold here. (But I think we did have a server.)

Re: This game might be it!
We still have a server I beleive. OFP seemed to suffer from mod management issues and the taking forever to join a game. But man is it fun when everything works.

Re: This game might be it!
I believe we had several successful OFP servers running for a while. However, the players eventually moved on to other newer games. OFP carried on with OFP nights... and then eventually died off.
If we had enough interested players, we probably could get OFP running again.

Re: This game might be it!
OFP never was really big here. We did play it for a bit but it just so happened that Ghost Recon was more popular. GR was always known as the dark side since it drew players away from Counter-strike. I never even knew about OFP until TG had the GR train running full speed. OFP just couldn't compete despite the awesome features.
Meh. I still say that OFP is GR on steroids. |

Re: This game might be it!
If Medieval II doesn't pull me away, I can be available for a game of WGL.
And OFP was the game with shoot elements that I have ever played back in 2001 at the age of nine. Lawl.

Re: This game might be it!
This can only be described as THE tactical, first-person shooter. And here I'm talking about OFP. Since AA is essentially the same game, we already know what to expect at the basic level. On top of that we get a whole lot more with increased AI performance, Bigger island, updated graphics, etc.
One thing I was really pleased with when I was reading about AA is that the SP campaign can be played out in multiplayer, which is perfect! ![]() I can see AA being big here at TG. Moreso if we actively promote it on the main (home) page and in the general forums as well with some ingame footage via fraps and screenies. When GR was big here, we had tonnes of missions being designed and mods coming out - I expect a similar thing to happen with AA. I also expect to see the return of the competitions like the old Alpha Squad Tourneys and their ilk. These were great fun to participate in and I'm sure that TG could well hold our own tournaments. We also held a mission competition that brought in some great idea and technical expertise in getting the most out of IGOR (GR's mission designer). AA can go the same way. As AA, like OFP, is so open, it gives us many avenues in which to express our gaming niche here at TG. On top of what we can do above, we also mustn't forget things like, TVT Capture the Island ![]() All of this we can do here at TG but when you add all the other community support I don't think we'll be asking if there's enough to do with AA but more likely "how much we can fit in?" |

A co-op mission competition that would be open to the public would be a great idea to have some talented modders in the ArmA/OFP/VBS1 community create top notch missions that would keep server play fresh. It looks like there is going to be an active enough community within TG to give this game a decent chance of being REAL BIG here at TG... --- BTW- Good to see you again Jex!

Re: This game might be it!
I will be posting an after-action review of a mission my group played in Flashpoint's Wargames League mod later today (most likely). Along with that, considering the interest level for ArmA at TG, I'll probably also write some text up describing how the Shack Tactical Flashpoint group has been running these past months. All of these things that you guys are getting excited about doing in ArmA, we've been doing in OFP for awhile - perhaps there are some interesting perspectives I can give on it, or perhaps it'll serve as inspiration for those thinking about checking out ArmA.
The possibilities inherent in the OFP and by definition ArmA engines are incredible. It's a completely different experience from the other games that TG promotes, and the amount of replayability is absolutely unrivaled due to the ease of mission creation, scripting, addon creation, et cetera. OFP is tactical gaming, and ArmA will simply take that further. I believe there are a few TG members who are playing with us these days, too. I know FriedFish is one of them, but I'm not sure of the others. He can vouch for the kind of gameplay we promote and have. It's truly a unique experience, and it will only get better with ArmA. |

Re: This game might be it!
I'm keeping a close eye on this game. The user previews I've read so far on the forums are dismal though. The bad rap is enough for me to stay away form the downloadable version available. I'll be sure to check back this forum in February to see if the US version is a more finished product.
